The phone rings insistently, shrilly at the local Veterinary Hospital. As I pick up the phone, I can only wonder what new emergency or problem has developed.
"Hi my dog is acting strangely" .......um ok.......could he have gotten into anything that you know of??
The gentleman on the other end of the line pauses....."Well maybe ...maybe he could have gotten into my "roommate's" weed" (quotations are my own here...we all know of course this is not his roommate's mary jane, it's his).....
You just never know when you work for a Veterinarian what kind of craziness you are going to see. And a lot of it on the emergency end of medicine has to do with ingestion, or eating of substances or items dogs and cats should not, in fact eat....
There is in fact, very few dull moments in the life of a staff member working for an Emergency Animal Hospital, especially....from the clients to the patients, and the doctors themselves, you can bet life will never be boring.
In the following chapters please enjoy an insider's sneak peek into a typical working Animal Hospital, and perhaps you will have a little more insight and compassion into that employee who is caring for your pet, or helping to ring out your visit, or diagnosing and treating your animal....we are all in it for the love of the animals, not the money......the average Veterinarian starts at 35,000 a year, after over 100,000 dollars worth of Vet School.....we are a vivacious, caring bunch and I welcome you into our crazy world.......
