*****SOOOOO Sorry I haven't updated in so long. So much craziness has happened to me. But I hope you enjoy this extra-long chapter to make up for lost time!!!

Abby's POV

As three rolled around, my anxiety for this meeting continued to grow. Fear filled my heart, especially since two different people wanted me to meet them at the beach. What was I say? No? Joel's cold voice filled my head as I slipped on my sandals. Combing through my messy hair, I pondered what the other call was about. Joel knew I was leaving the beach soon, so maybe he wanted to say goodbye to me in a quick manner.

For whatever the reason was, I couldn't deny that I had to go meet them. Whatever both of my callers wanted, they would get it. The beach was quiet today; a cool breeze swept over the surface of the sand. Waves crashed gently against the shore, and the sun shone so bright through the clouds overhead. Time ticked away, and before I knew it, two fifty arrived. Without a sign from either one of the people I was expecting, I slumped down against the palm tree and drifted into a soft sleep.

Joel approached the beach quickly, and grabbed my shoulder. I jumped at his touch, and let out a small scream.

"It's just me!" He hushed, rubbing my shoulder," Look, we've got to go. Now." The urgency in his voice frightened me.

"But someone else called me.. We need to wait here." I stumbled. Before he could respond, I saw Amber walk towards us. Joel's face flushed a bright red color, and he jolted over to her. Amber smirked and opened her mouth, but Joel covered it before she spoke a word. What was all the fuss about?

Slowly, I stood up and walked toward Amber. She was struggling against Joel's grip on her mouth. Tugging and pulling against his arm was doing her no good. Joel yelled," She is a liar. She wants us to stop talking, Abby. Don't listen to her!" I didn't know what to say, so I just stood there like a baffled idiot in front of the two of them.

Finally, Amber kicked him and he lost his grip on her. "Just let me speak!" She yelled, running up to me.

I nodded.

"Joel isn't who you think he is. He cheated on Sam with me several times. He's going to do the same to you too. I wanted you to know the truth. He didn't want to tell you." Joel dropped to the ground in tears as Amber spoke, and I stood in shock. Was this true?

I broke the silence by asking Joel if it was true, and he hung his head in shame. I figured so. Glancing at Amber's satisfied face, and Joel's sad expression, I decided I had to do it. If there was a time to do anything, now was it. My throat felt like it was closing up, but I spoke as loud as possible.

"I'm tired of this crazy mess. This was supposed to be my VACATION. I'm done. I'm going home tomorrow, and I don't want to remember this summer. Joel, I thought you were special. But it's obvious you aren't the one for me. I don't care if it's a past habit, or present one. You've got way too much drama, baggage, and history for me to be able to handle. Amber, you've got serious problems if you think it's okay to cheat with your best friend's boyfriend. Now, when I turn around, I don't want to hear a word or feel a touch on my skin. What I've said is FINAL and I don't want a fuss made about it. I've got things to do."

I walked away from them, and went straight to my room. Was I upset? Yes. But I was determined. I was going to see Sam and give her some parting words. I gathered my bag, and threw my sunglasses and wallet inside. I borrowed mom's car, and slowly tracked down Sam. She wasn't hard to find, and when she was me, she halted in her tracks.

"What do you want?" She asked, glaring at me with an angry look on her face. The latte in her hand seemed to shrink as she squeezed the cup tightly. Her blond roots stood up on her small head.

"To tell you the truth. Amber's been cheating with Joel when he was your boyfriend. I'm done with him. I'll be gone tomorrow. Have fun."

And with that, I left. Swiftly, I walked away from her and to my surprise, I got no remark. I walked away, got home, packed, and we left sharply that morning. No one asked me what was wrong, even though I was dead silent the whole ride home.

---------------------------

My junior year began, and I was already at the top of my class. Joel, Amber, and Sam were the last of my memories. I never went back to Florida on vacation again, and the only time I heard from Joel was the couple of times he tried to call me. I rejected them, of course. He sent me several messages, asking me what happened and if I could see him again. I couldn't listen to him though. Love at first sight, make believe, summer romances were only for fairy tales, country music, sappy movies and in my dreams.
