Jaylin, your average girl, had nothing. She was alone in a big, spacious house and no one knew it. As if anyone cared. Jaylin was the girl who was picked last for the kickball team in middle school. She was the girl that got stomped all over because she allowed it. She lost her parents just a year ago. That was when everyone turned on her.

Jaylin's parents were famous. Her father was an actor, and her mom hosted a talk-show. They were highly respected members of the community. But when they died in a car wreck, Jaylin vowed to never own a car. She walked everywhere she went. Even when she had eight arm-fulls worth of groceries, she'd carry them home.

And school wasn't a treat. Her friends weren't true friends, but Jaylin took what she could get. She just wanted someone to lean on for a change. She wanted happiness. But she was also afraid of happiness. She was afraid to trust anyone. The idea of being loved had become foreign to her.

As she walked through the alleyway in order to get home, she bumped into the one and only Greyson James. Greyson James was famous as well. He was starting out in show business. He was auditioning for a TV show called Him and Her. An ordinary sitcom. But Greyson knew Jaylin. He'd heard things about her and actually knew her quite well. Thanks to his mother, who was an officer and had the luxury of knowing everything about everyone.

"I'm sorry," Jaylin said in a feeble voice. She grabbed her stuff and ran off, afraid of Greyson's reaction.

Greyson watched her take off in astonishment. Why would she run? He thought. I wouldn't hurt her, or yell at her. He thought to himself. He turned back to his group of friends. He hung out with the computer geeks, but he was more of a rebellious, party-trowing, lady-chasing type of guy.

His thoughts were all about Jaylin now. He wanted to know her more. He wanted to have a conversation with her. He wanted to know HER. Not just what he had heard from files. He wanted to hear her explain her life story. But Greyson knew she wouldn't do it. He turned back to his friends mentally just as a high pitched scream was heard.

Greyson took off in the direction of the scream, his friends hot on his heels. As they came out of the alleyway, they saw Jaylin on the ground, her books and papers scattered, her eyes closed, and her chest heaving as she gasped for air.

Jaylin had been hit by a truck, but it wasn't a gruesome scene. It just knocked the breath out of her. She struggled to keep herself breathing. As her eyes closed, she could feel something slipping away from her mind. She wasn't sure what.

Greyson and his friends called for an ambulance and they had to wait an hour for it to arrive. When it did, Greyson and his friends weren't allowed to ride along, given they barely knew her and weren't related. Plus, there were lots of paramedics in the ambulance already.

After another hour of driving to the hospital, the doctors searched for her emergency contact, but nothing showed up. All of Jaylin's files had vanished. Her pediatrician had figured that since she hadn't been in the hospital for so long, that he threw them out. And when the chief of surgery found out, he got mad and did everything he could to find Jaylin's files, but her pediatrician had already shredded them.

Naturally, he was fired on the spot. But the doctors knew her parents had passed. Famous people were always remembered. It was the way it worked. The chief of surgery ordered a resident to handle Jaylin. The resident's name was Gwen. She was a very sweet person, who had been working at the hospital for four years.
