Sky academy (Book I)

Seeker

 Night is full of fear. She is laying down on the floor with her hand under her chin,watching  mild face on the  moonlight. Long, straight, blonde hair, face to pale on the moonlight and warm green eyes that watch the stars. This view of her brother inspires in her some hope and courage. Sh doesn't know why is she scared. As if her heart is dancing in the same rhythm with shadows on the wall. For three nights she feels so weird.It is like she's expecting something or someone. She has the strange presentiment, neither good or bad. She thinks about it for hours, and can't sleep. Modeled by her brother she starts to watch the stars and thinks about them. Stars have always reminded her for love, loyalty and something pure. As a little girl she thought that the stars are the eyes of her mother, and she was wondering what kind of eyes has her mother actually. Now when she's older she thinks about them otherwise and feels that she loves them in some strange way. 

- Leo?- she whispered. But her voice bounced of the walls and rang like an echo in her head. She thought it would be all lay around them awake, but she would hear only a deep, peaceful breathing and whistling of wind.

- Yes?- he said turning to her.

- What do you think what is your star on the sky?

- I don't know. Or maybe is better not to know.

- Why?

- Well, when I don't know, they're all mine , because each could be that one. And if I knew which is my i would lose the rest of them. 

- I know when you will discover that secret.

- When?

- When you realize that is the one being sufficient  for happiness. That is special and belongs only to you. It belongs to you, and you can not have it. You can't touch it or smell it. You don't' hear it while is throwing the sparks in the sky. It's a wonderful feeling. When you know that there is something of yours, what is watching after you. It loves you, and maybe you love it too. That is platonic love- without words or touch. It is perhaps true love, but impossible, because there will never be rapprochement with something that is so close to you. And you're not alone, not any more.

Midnight had long since passed. The moon is hiding behind the gray clouds on the dark sky. Old line tree costs strange shadows on the wall.

All children sleep peacefully. Gabriel and Leo have long been asleep looking at the stars. Leo sleeps peacefully and his face is shining with carefree expression. Gabriel turns with a frightened look on her face. Floors in orphanages are cold and mats are thin.Dreams that comes to her are scary.

Suddenly there was a bang and the sound of glass breaking. Leo and Gabriel jumped at the same time awakened by noise and confused by all the children sleep like anything happened. Instinctively looked toward the window on the west side from where the bang had come. 

There in the corner stood tall figure wrapped in black with a  hood. Suddenly the moon appeared out from behind the clouds and lit up the silver studs and blade attached on his backs. Light falls at an wrong angle. Face is not visible. 

Gabriel made a sound of horror. ' This is the man from the dream', was the first thought that went through her head. She put her hand to her mouth and eyes opened wide in order to face glimpsed the man who's hidden behind a black hood. Black figure started to move easily and loudly.They can hear the crunch of metal and the rustle of silk. Shadows over his head make strange moves, creating a variety of forms. Moment seems like a year in this unbearable silence. A silent shadow is increasingly  drawn.

Gabriel felt her heart began to beat very fast and that her fear is spreading body. Cold feeling of fearful and helpless, and is shivering volumes. Leo is just sitting motionless staring into the darkness in which someone's silhouette outlined, darker than dark. He felt shaky touch on his left arm and realized that next to him is his sister and that she's scared to death. He told himself that there is no time to be scared because if he is afraid of, nobody will be able to calm Gabriel. But what to do? Instinctively hugged his sister and whispered to her 'Everything is gonna be okay', although he wasn't so sure of that. He can feel her trembling and expeditious breathing.  Fear is like electricity, is transmitted. And he began to think about this strange phenomenon which now stands in front of them, and about their helplessness and weakness, because suddenly this shadow looked huge and powerful, and scary to him. 

He could no longer take this unbearable silence that  irritates him and makes the worst thoughts .

- Show them to me!- said the black shadow. His voice was rough and high. What wants to see this creature, this monster in front of them? Leo looked around and saw that all the others are sleeping peacefully. 

-They can not hear us. I guess that you are the right ones. Show me.- said a little bit harsher.

-What?-barely audibly pronounced Leo. Gabriel was silent. She was so frightened that she lost the power of speech and thinking. She heard only a voice deep inside to saying that this the man from the dream. From this , and many nights previous and backward.

-Ears. Show me your ears. - said the voice but a bit irritated. Leo isn't realized. He shook his head in disagreement. Why did he wants to see just the ears? Didn't want to show him the ears that he is hiding from childhood, for which he wore long hair.

From the dark appearance of the line long bony hand, covered with grayish, dry skin, with long, thin fingers ended with claws. Gabriel drop involuntary cry of horror an stuck the creature's hand and felt the coldness.

- Do not touch us!- she said decisively.  On her face was no longer fearful expression, not of weakness. Saw only anger. Black figure seemed to be confused at the moment because of her's proceedings. Leo was petrified.

-I just want to show mw your ears.

She angrily inclined her wavy, long hair and found two elongated spiky ears, not like humans. Leo is still astonished. He was shocked but also proud of his sister. Imitating her he did the same.

-It's good.-said black creature with relief. Two of them just looked each other and covered their ears again. Moon is already began to fade as dark color of the sky.

-You must come with me. 

-Why?- Leo asked. But he's already made a decision to defend his sister at any cost.

-Do not complain. Yo need. Otherwise...

-Or what? What will you do? Do you really think we'll go anywhere with a stranger? Well you're wrong. We're not going anywhere.

-Do you really want to stay at the orphanage that have provided only sadness and coldness for you?

Leo was silent.He can not against the truth.

-You must come with me. Here anyway, you have nothing to lose.

-I'll go with you wherever you want but leave her alone.

Gabriel looked at him. In her eyes he saw fear and disappointment and disapproval and anger. But also a relief when the shadow said that both have to come.

-But where?

-No question. I guess you want to know something about your parents.- this changed things, and their face expressions.

-You will get the answers if you come with me.

-OK. Lead us. - Leo said.
