we were tracing each other's initials onto the frosted windowpane of your mother's car window.
you told me my hair was the color of a honeybee's
and the nickname stuck.
i drew a map of my heart and showed you
the place where you took up
three-quarters of it.
i told you everything, starting with
how you tore my walls
down,
and ending with that feeling of bliss inside
when you looked at me
with indigo eyes.
you kissed me with open,
salty lips
and it was bittersweet.
silence, then three stupid words were
whispered without meaning.
"i love you."
i wasn't expecting such an abrupt confession
from the boy in the backseat
who'd stolen my heart.
and i couldn't believe you.
