“JAMES!”
I turned around in my seat to see my brunette sibling running frantically towards my spot at a table, sitting across from Elina, who was explaining how Condumdria’s laws worked. I stood up from my seat and walked towards her when I saw her face was filled with horror and agony.
“Juliet, what’s wrong”, I asked as I held her hands together, hoping she would calm down.
She began to either mumble random things or talk too fast before I grabbed her shoulders and said,” Calm down, I can’t understand what you’re saying. Slow down and tell me what’s wrong.”
Tears began to form on her now ghostly pallid skin as she stuttered softly,” Sam got h-hit by a t-t-truck…”
Before she could finish what she was saying, I grabbed her wrist and dragged her through the building towards the main doors. When we got to the main exit, I pushed the doors opened and slid onto the sidewalk to get a better view of the street.
Nothing.
No blood. No body. Nothing except for the passing vehicles.
“Juliet, where’s Sam”, Elina asked, taking the words right out of my mouth.
Juliet began to talk fast again, with me only understanding the words ‘Sam’, ‘truck’, ‘smoke’, ‘hit’, and ‘disappeared’.
I attempted to calm Juliet again as Elina asked,” Can you carry her to the living room, so ya could talk there? I have a feeling ya won’t want random bystanders intruding on our conversation.”
I gave a quick nod before tossing my rambling sister over my shoulder and carried her into the Nigma Federal Building.
When Elina gave me a tour of the place, she explained how this used to be a business building that they reconstructed to be the main federal building where district meetings and such are held at. She also explained how the top three floors are reserved for the leader of Condumdria and his or her family. She also informed me that they found the entrance to the Batcave when they were recreating the building and decided to create the test Juliet, Sam, and I did for the Batman, even though he never used the entrance.
As I walked out of the green elevator and into the riddle themed living room, I plopped Juliet onto the green couch and sat on the coffee table in front of her. Elina followed behind me and sat down next to Julie, signaling me to start the interrogation.
“Ok, you need to slow down for a moment and answer our questions: What happen to Sam”, I asked her, having her breathe in and out slowly.
When she was calm enough, she took her cell phone out and began messing with it before handing it to me. I looked down at the screen to see it was a security camera that was directed to the road in front of the building. I waited a bit before I saw a figure, most likely Samantha, running into the middle of the street. Cars began to swerve pass her at first before a fourteen wheeler truck, that was forty-five feet away from her came closer to her, honking it’s loud horn at her.
When the truck was around thirty to twenty-five feet away from the frozen Samantha, smoke began to form around her, making it hard to see her. With the smoke covering a ten foot radius, the truck passed through the smoke and came out through the other side, not making any sound associated with hitting or crashing into Samantha. When the smoke faded finally, I scanned the road to see there was no trace of Samantha being in that spot a minute ago.
“She disappeared…”
‘I’m not one for magic tricks, but that was fantastic”, Elina interrupted as she looked down at the phone.
“It’s not funny, Elina. Sam could be injured and alone with no one to help her. Not a good time to make jokes”, I stated, rewinding the video to watch it again.
As Elina continued to lecture me about how I have feelings for Sam and I couldn’t ignore them, I noticed the fog a bit darker in the center and disappears when the truck hits the outer rim of the smoke. I rewind it yet again to see the dark shadow in the smoke almost resembles a silhouette of a bat.
“The Batman saved her”, I said to myself as I looked up at the worried filled Juliet and the rambling Elina, who paused her rampage when she heard the word ‘batman’.
“Are you sure about that, James? We didn’t see him in the batcave when we went there”, Juliet asked me with confusion and worry laced in her voice.
“And none of the Batmen, unknowing how many there are or were, have used the entrance. But I bet he could get here without the assistance of the batcave”, Elina chimed in, causing me to nod my head.
I began to stand up as I looked down at them and said,” Either way, we have to find her. Since the building is right in front of a three way intersection, I suggest we split up and find her.”
“Fine with me”, Elina replied as she stood up from her seat and started towards the elevator, leaving Julie and I behind.
Julie was the next to stand up from her stop, while saying,” Me too. But I would like to have my phone back.”
Rolling my eyes at her, I handed her phone back to her, which she gladly accepted and put away, before we began to follow Elina back to the main entrance.
