Rose

I whirled around to face someone, heart set on letting out a scream to the best of my ability. Instead, I stopped short and stared at the intruder.
Cheyanne Malfoy was staring at me, a smirk on her face and her bright grey eyes shining mischievously. She released me and I took a moment to gawk at her.
"Where are you going?"
"What're you doing here?!"
She sighed. "Okay you go first."
"Gladly...what the bloody hell are you doing here?!" I whisper yelled. 'Wow,' I thought to myself, 'Fred must be rubbing off on me.'
Cheyanne raised an eyebrow at me. "Scorpius was sneaking off towards the Gryffindor common room but then I lost sight of him so I thought he must've come through here," she shrugged.
I narrowed my eyes. "How do you know where the Gryffindor common room is?" I asked suspiciously. Only members of the house were supposed to know where the common room was and I knew for a fact I had seen Cheyanne get sorted into Slytherin with my own two eyes.
She shrugged again, "I have connections." I shook my head and relaxed a bit, slumping against the wall.
"Now answer my question...where were you going?" She questioned. I thought about her question for a minute. Where was I going? To go find Albus? He was long gone by now, off to wherever he was sneaking off to. He could be anywhere in the castle, I'd never find him. Cheyanne let out a chuckle.
"Not sure? Well, I'm going to go look for Scorpius. You should tag along," Cheyanne suggested, eyeing me.
I arched an eyebrow, "Why?"
She rolled her eyes, "To find your cousin of course."
"I know that, obviously. But why would you want me to come with you? You don't know me and your cousin has made it clear he doesn't care very much for me."
It was Cheyanne's turn to arch an eyebrow. "1, From what I've heard, you lot got off on the wrong foot. 2, I'm not my cousin, I'm perfectly capable of forming my own opinions about people, and 3, maybe I don't think you're so bad, Rose Weasley," she shrugged, talking in a nonchalant tone. But I knew better.
Her face was tight with strain as if she was trying really hard not to grimace. And her eyes, they had a longing in them. She looked...lonely. I considered her thoughtfully. I'd liked Cheyenne from the moment she smiled at me on the boat ride yesterday. She didn't seem to have anything in common with Scorpius besides an obviously cunning personality trait and their looks. Besides, it may be handy to have a Slytherin by your side when you're sneaking around. And most of all, this was Scorpius's cousin. Going with her would mean I might see Scorpius and no matter how much I tried to convince myself I didn't want to, I knew I was dying to catch his eye again.
"So? Are you coming?" Cheyenne asked impatiently. She looked uncomfortable with her arms crossed across her chest. She was obviously nervous about my answer.
"Hmm..I suppose," I said with a smile. She looked up and offered me a small smile in return.
"Well then, be grateful you'll have the pleasure of joining the likes of me as we sneak out," she said doing a small, cocky bow.
I rolled my eyes and waved off her comment, "Yeah sure."
"Go get your wand and put on some street clothes, can't have your robes billowing behind us while we're trying to be subtle." I nodded in agreement and started to ascend the stairs to the girls' dormitories. "Merlin, hurry up, Rose!" I heard Cheyanne bark before I sprinted up the stairs.
I laid out a pair of jeans and a long sleeve shirt on my bed and considered my situation. Either go to bed and let Albus get away with whatever he was doing or sneak out with Cheyanne, risk getting caught, and disappoint my mum.
Naturally, I started to change into my jeans. I knew my mom wasn't a saint while she was at Hogwarts, no matter how much she tried to insist that she had been. I'd heard plenty of stories from Uncle Harry about how she'd always be right behind himself and my dad when it came to sneaking around the castle, even if she needed a little persuading at first. If I was caught, I'd simply remind her of these times and hope that she didn't punish me for talking back. Besides, this was for a good cause. I was dying to find out where Albus had gone and, to my disdain, I had the growing desire to see Scorpius again. I walked down the stairs to see Cheyanne gazing around the common room.
"Interesting isn't it?" I questioned, startling her as I came up behind her. She pursed her lips in consideration.
"It's very red...and gold. Whatever, let's go," she grumbled, walking over to the portrait whole and climbing through. I followed closely behind (feeling guilty as the Fat Lady gave us a disapproving look) and walked next to Cheyanne.
"So, any clue as to where we're going?" I whispered.
She looked at me weirdly. "Why are you whispering?"
I opened my mouth and closed it, "So that Filch and Mrs. Norris don't hear us?"
Cheyanne chuckled, "If that old cat finds us, she finds us. No amount of whispering will stop her if she catches a whiff of us. It won't even help." She stopped at an intersecting corridor and paused for a second before turning left. I followed, staring to question if Cheyanne really knew where she was going.
"We're heading to the courtyard," she told me, "It's where the teachers and prefects would least expect students to go," she explained.
I furrowed my eyebrows. "And why's that?"
"Cause no one wants to go outside at night! Come on!" She snorted, picking up the pace. I had to jog to keep up with her. We finally reached the courtyard and I took a hesitant step backwards.
"Are you sure about this?" I asked.
Cheyanne rolled her eyes and sighed impatiently, "Merlin, Rose. You must stop being so apprehensive. Yes of course I'm sure. Let's go."
We stepped outside and started towards a gazebo on the far left when we heard rustling sounds and hushed voices. The opening of the structure was hidden by some dead vines, obstructing our vision. We snuck around the side of the opening and waited.
Cheyanne looked at me and counted down on her fingers, '1...2...3!'
We jumped in front of the entrance of the gazebo, and at that exact moment, two figures pounced outwards, landing on top of us and sending us all sprawling.
My head hit the dry grassy floor and I hissed in pain.
"You!" A voice said. It was coming from directly on top of me.
"Scorpius! Would you get up off of her! She doesn't need your fat arse crushing her bones!" I heard Cheyanne snap. At the mention of Scorpius's name, my heartbeat sped up to an annoyingly fast pace and my mouth went dry. Even as I was injured, Scorpius was invading my thoughts.
"My head feels like You-Know-Who's soul," another voice groaned. There was only one person I knew who still called Voldemort that.
"Albus??" I groaned.
"Oh bloody hell," he mumbled.
I cracked my eyes open only to become more dizzy. I groaned again before opening my eyes all the way. Cheyanne and Albus were kneeling over me. Scorpius was already on his feet, sneering down at me. I wrinkled my nose and twisted my face up at him, remembering our last encounter when he wore the same expression on his face. The face of an angel but a horrid personality. But I felt my face soften into a blank stare as I got lost in his eyes, feeling the magnitude of their pull. Merlin's beard, what was he doing to me? Cheyanne and Albus helped me to my feet unsteadily. I righted myself as we all stared at each other with distaste.
"What are you doing here?!" we all shouted at each other, boys at girls and girls at boys.
"Isn't it obvious?!" I snapped, "We're looking for your sneaky arses! Why are you here with Malfoy, Albus??"
"A better question would be what're you lot doing here?" Cheyanne hissed. Albus stared at the ground, unable to meet my eyes. Scorpius gazed at us with a lazy expression etched on his handsome face.
"I'll admit, I should have told you," Albus muttered to me.
"Explain," I frowned, looking back and forth between the two boys, confused as to what business they could possibly have with each other.
Albus lifted his gaze to look at me. "Shouldn't we go back to the common room? The chances of us getting caught are high," he said, biting his lip nervously. I pursed my lips at the thought of Scorpius coming back to the common room with us. On one hand, he was a Slytherin and he wasn't supposed to come into our common room let alone know where it was. On the other hand, Scorpius in the common room? The possibility of catching those gray eyes again?
"Fine, whatever," I huffed, giving into my irritating desire to be around him. I mean, he was an arse and bloody annoying but...there was something about him that made my head spin.
"It'll only be for a bit. Plus, I'll be there," Cheyanne assured me. Albus nodded hopefully. I let out an irritated sigh.
"Fine. But I'm not taking the blame if we get in trouble!" I warned. We went back into the castle and snuck through winding corridors. The castle was even more difficult to navigate at night and we had gotten lost for the third time when we all started arguing about Cheyenne's terrible leadership skills. Suddenly, we heard a cat's meow. I gasped knowing exactly who the noise came from.
"What is it, my sweet?" a distant, nasty voice asked. Yep, that confirmed it.
"It's Filch! Hide!" I whispered urgently, whirling around and shoving everyone down the nearest corridor. We ran, shoes clacking loudly on the ground before I spotted a broom closet on the left of us. "C'mon!"
I held the door open as we all piled inside before shutting it quickly. We all held our breath and didn't dare move a muscle. We heard a shuffling from the opposite side of the door and a pause. I shrank back in fear, backing right into Scorpius who grabbed my forearm. Filch shuffled away, muttering nothings down the corridor, a meowing Mrs. Norris right behind him. Everyone released their breath and paused for a moment to process what had just happened.
I exhaled deeply and looked up at Scorpius, realizing our proximity to each other. He looked down at me and then glanced at his hand which was still gripping my arm. The air was sucked from my body at his piercing gaze, his eyes meeting mine in a way that made me want to fall straight to the floor. He cleared his throat and quickly released me and then stared at me expectantly. I gasped, realizing I was still backed against him and leapt to the other side of the closet. Albus and Cheyanne had their ears pressed to the door, listening intently for anymore signs of Filch.
"Do you think he's gone?" Albus asked.
"I think so," I said trying to control my thumping heart. Partly from our too-close-for-comfort run in with Filch, and partly from the shock of having Scorpius so close to me.
I took a deep breath and cracked open the door, relieved to see that there was no old man standing there, ready to expel us. I gestured for them to follow me and led them up to the common room, quickly realizing that the broom closet we had piled in had been right next to Professor Flitwick's class.
Once we were climbed through the portrait hole, we all collapsed into our respective places by the fire. I sat on a long couch directly in front of the fire and stretched my legs across it, sighing in exhaustion. Cheyanne kicked her legs up on a low table and sat back in an arm chair. Albus sat next to me on the far end of the sofa and, for whatever reason, Scorpius laid on the floor.
I gulped and tried to exercise my self control but it was extremely difficult. He looked gorgeous with his now shaggy, gel free hair, and his silver eyes staring into nothing at the ceiling. His long legs went on a slant, rising up to meet the seat of a spare arm chair. His lips were the palest shade of pink and I noticed how the left side of his mouth curved downwards a little more, giving the effect that he was smirking. But really, he was deep in thought. He looked so at peace lying on his back with his hands behind his head, I only wish his personality matched his angelic looks.
In one swift movement, his eyes swept over me as he smirked. "Done staring?" He asked with a tease in his voice. I snapped out of my daze, outraged that I had been caught and that his voice was interrupting my thoughts. This was just the type of thing that ruined his looks: his mouth.
"I wasn't staring!" I protested, knowing that it was obvious that I had been. Cheyanne yawned and gave me a knowing look while Albus's face was screwed up in an uncomfortable, disgusted way.
Scorpius let out a laugh which made my stomach somersault. "Sure you weren't. I can't blame you. You may be many things but at least you have good taste," he smirked with a wink.
I scowled down at him from my position on the couch. "You're vile. Anyway, what were you two doing in the courtyard past curfew?" I asked skeptically, trying to redirect the conversation. Albus glanced at Scorpious nervously who gave him a slight nod of approval.
My cousin took a deep breath. "Well remember how I told you that the sorting hat and I didn't exactly agree one which house I belonged in?" I nodded as Cheyanne sat upright in her chair.
Albus sighed, "It turns out I wasn't the only one having trouble in my house. Yesterday, I had been walking through the corridors after dinner, just looking to clear my head before curfew, when I bumped into someone."
"Me," Scorpious said taking over, "I introduced myself and we went on a bit of a walk. He was skeptical, of course, seeing our family history but we got along alright, talking about our houses. You see, since I'm Draco Malfoy's son, some people blame my family for the loss of their parents. Then there's the fact that my family were known Death Eaters, most Slytherins don't like that much anymore," Scorpius explained, sitting up and leaning his back against the sofa where I was sitting He stretched out his legs under the table.
"It's true," Cheyanne chimed in, "They hate us. We've a got a select few people who don't consider us to be the scum of the Earth"
"But why?"I interrupted, " Why would they blame you lot for their parents' deaths? You had nothing to do with it."
He looked up at me with his silver orbs, causing me to shiver, "They say if my father had finished the job Voldemort had given him and our family, maybe he wouldn't have killed off so many of his followers, their parents. Say we shouldn't have even been involved with Voldemort in the first place. Don't see how that's fair as I wasn't born yet," Scorpius laughed with no humor."
I nodded silently thinking about how hard it must be to live like that. That explained the lack of applause from the Slytherin table at their sorting. I've been a part of a huge family my entire life and even after the Weasleys, I had the Potters. I'd never not known where I belonged, I'd always been so sure of my place in the world. Looking down at Scorpius, I couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for him. It wasn't at all his fault, what happened with his family and Voldemort and it was wrong for the other Slytherins to judge him for the past. Maybe I'd judged him too soon as well, without even knowing his story.
Scorpius continued, "So Albus and I agreed to meet back in the courtyard after curfew today to talk more."
"Why didn't you tell me?" I said frowning at Al. We told each other everything and it really hurt that he hadn't told me about his friendship with Scorpius. He looked down guiltily, "I thought you would be upset with me for befriending a Slytherin."
I twisted up my mouth. He did have point. Our families didn't exactly have the best track record with Slytherins. But even so...
"You never have to hide anything from me, Al. I'll love you no matter what. But I see why you'd think that I'd be upset. I promise not to judge any of your friends before getting to know them," I promised leaning over and squeezing his hand. Albus beamed at me and held my hand tightly in response.
"Thanks for explaining at that to us," Cheyanne called to the boys. "And you, you let me come with next time you sneak off or I'm telling your mother," Cheyanne scowled, leaning over to thump Scorpius on the back of the head.
"Ow, you arse!" Scorpius yelled, whirling around to get Cheyanne back.
"Shhhh!" Albus and I violently shushed the two of them.
"You lot aren't supposed to be here, keep quiet!" I warned. Silence washed over us before we all launched into a fit of laughter, falling back and clutching our stomachs.
"You know...maybe we can all be friends?" I asked, coming down from my fit of giggles.
Scorpius  looked up at me again, back at his position on the floor and offered me a half smile, "Yeah...maybe." There it was again. That smile and those eyes that made my heart skip several beats. I curled into the couch and looked away, positive my face had turned the exact shade of my hair.
"Cmon Scorp. We've gotta get back," Cheyanne nudged him and made her way towards the portrait hole. "Night Rose. Thank you again," Albus grinned and bid his farewell to Cheyanne and Scorpius before heading up to the boys' dorms.
I glanced back at Scorpius except he wasn't on the floor anymore. He was standing before me, hands in his pockets, with a small frown on his face. His eyes were darting around the room, looking everywhere but my face. Then suddenly, his eyes met mine and he held my gaze. I felt like I could melt into the couch right then and there, the intensity of his gaze was hard to match. I couldn't imagine what he may look like in a few years from now, he was already perfect. Adding more to him wouldn't be fair to the rest of the male population.
"Hey...er- I just wanted to say I'm...I'm sorry for the uh...for the incident on the train...all of it...I was...I was rather rude to you," Scorpious muttered, looking down at the ground. He kicked his foot against the ground nervously and peered back up at me. On his right hand was a silver ring I hadn't noticed before, a Slyhterin snake adorning it. He twisted it around, back and forth as he waited for my reply. I'd never seen anything so adorable. Maybe he wasn't an evil Slytherin and maybe I'd been entirely too quick to judge him. The boy who was standing in front of me was in no way rude or obnoxious. He was...just Scorpius. I smiled brightly at him, suddenly feeling quite bold in light of his apology.
"Thank you, Scorpius," I beamed, calling him by his first name for the first time to his face. I got up from my seat and leaned forward slightly, pressing my lips to his cheek softly. He went rigid, freezing in shock. I pulled away and smiled shyly, tugging on my fingers nervously.
He slowly began to smile and ran his hand through his hair. "You're welcome...Rose," he called as he walked out of the common room, following Cheyanne.
Once the portrait hole had closed, I collapsed on the couch and exhaled blissfully. I knew things would be different now. And a whole lot crazier.
"Gryffindor...house of the brave and the bold," I mumbled to myself.
