CHAPTER 4: I Dominate at Monopoly
I knock on Pierce's door, nervous butterflies coursing through my stomach. I wait for a couple seconds and knock again. I wonder if Pierce told his family that I was coming over or not.
Before I can deliberate what to do next, the door swings open and a messy-haired teenage boy is already staring at me suspiciously with his arms crossed over his chest. He relaxes instantly at the sight of me, though, and lets out a sigh of relief. "Oh, thank God you're not Rachel," he says sincerely. "That girl is a pain in the-"
"You must be Cassie!" A relieved-looking middle-aged woman rushes toward me with a big smile on her face, pushing the teenage guy away. "Pierce told me you were coming to work on a Physics project, is that right?"
I nod, smiling politely. I don't know if it's just me or not, but I am really awkward when it comes to talking to adults. I never know what to say to them besides weather observations, and I just find it straight up uncomfortable to talk to them for longer than literally 2 minutes. In addition to that, Pierce had warned me that his mother was a little crazy so I was even more on guard than usual.
"Okay. Well, let me just call Pierce down. I think he's done taking his shower. He can show you where to go."
I smile, genuinely this time. "Thank you, Mrs. Reynolds. That would be great." Mrs. Reynolds seems to be perfectly fine to me, and I wonder if Pierce had been a little too hard on his mom.
"Pierce!" the teenage guy thunders, scaring the crap out of me. I forgot he was still here. "Pierce!"
"Ross," Mrs. Reynolds scolds, giving him a look for being so loud. "You scared Cassie."
Pierce sticks his head out of a door on the second floor before Ross can reply and bellows back. "Whaaaat?"
"Cassie's here!" I smile at Ross, and he smiles at me slyly before obviously checking me out. I notice that Ross looks totally different from Pierce - so different I can hardly believe they're related. He has dirty blonde hair and sneaky green eyes instead of the dark brown hair and understanding blue eyes like his brother. His face is more symmetrical, but I notice a small scar on the side of his forehead. Pierce has a better body but Ross is pretty toned himself. I bet he's a ladies man.
Pierce hurries down before I can inspect his brother some more. "Hey, Cassie!" he greets brightly, grabbing my elbow and towing me away. "We're going to be working upstairs in my room. I do not like the way Ross is looking at you."
I glance back, and Ross winks at me. I giggle to myself while Pierce flips a smirking Ross off behind his mother's back.
"So how old is your brother?" I ask once we're inside Pierce's room. I look around and grin to myself. Pierce's room is painted blue and is oddly neat for a guy. His walls are clean except for the one signed and framed Beatles poster and the random One Direction and Justin Bieber posters hanging everywhere. One of the Justin Bieber posters has a huge heart on it and a lipstick stain, a fact that does not go unnoticed by me.
