Hi! This is one of my new pieces - I felt like some Weasley action. I hope you like this first part - it's mostly an introduction to everyone.It was her first day at Hogwarts and her last year at that.
Claire hadn't had the privilege of staying back 'home' in Beauxbatons, where she already was a familiar soul; instead, she was sent up here - to the icy north. Not that she would complain too loudly since, by nature, Claire enjoyed an adventure.
And that was precisely what she would name this monstrous castle; an adventure.
How could she not? The great stone walls, blazing torches and generally black-clad students made this place seem like something out of a medieval play.
Yet, of course, there was something entirely different about the castle—the radiating magic.
She was by now trailing behind a stern-looking professor, who was addressed as professor McGonagall. Behind her was a large gathering of eleven-year-olds who were also here to be sorted into their designated houses. She felt silly, her slightly tall seventeen-year-old frame towering over all the kids.
Claire pondered over her new situation. Of course, she had been used to the whole boarding school experience from Beauxbatons. Yet now, she was dropped off in an entirely different country; it was borderline overwhelming.
As the vast, double wooden doors opened and revealed the almost blinding light from the great hall. The ceiling was bewitched to imitate the velvet night sky. Right below, countless candles hung like fairy lights. There were myriad students below the stunning top of the room. They were all separated into four sections that still merged somehow. She could easily separate the Slytherins, Gryffindors, Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs.
By the looks she got as she walked behind the professor, she must've not been the usual deal. Claire chose not to focus too much on the attention she was getting; instead, she looked straight into the back of the professor.
She spotted a ragged hat on top of a stool as theystopped before the elevated area where the teachers sat. It lookedancient, creased with the years and oddly dog-eared. As she kept staring at it,it broke out in song.
"A thousand years or more ago
When I was newly sewn,
There lived four wizards of renown,
Whose names are still well known:Bold Gryffindor from wild moor,
Fair Ravenclaw, from glen,
Sweet Hufflepuff, from valley broad,
Shrewd Slytherin, from fen.They shared a wish, a hope, a dream,
They hatched a daring plan
To educate young sorcerers
Thus Hogwarts School began.Now each of these four founders
Formed their own house, for each
Did value different virtues
In the ones they had to teach.By Gryffindor, the bravest were
Prized far beyond the rest;
For Ravenclaw, the cleverest
Would always be the best;For Hufflepuff, hard workers were
Most worthy of admission;
And power-hungry Slytherin
Loved those of great ambition.
