Chapter 3:
I looked him in surprise. Partner? No. Okay. This is all stupid and a lie. “If this was all true, why did you get to stay and I had to leave? And why are you just finding me now if I‘m your partner?! And why are you even-,” Jason cut me off. “It was your parents’ choice. Trust me princess, I didn‘t know we were imprinted either! But when I found out, I wanted nothing but for you to be safe!” he said. I looked away from him in disbelief. “This is crazy! How can you sit here and lie to me like that?” I said. Jason sighed. “I’m not lying to you, Anna.” he said. I shook my head. “Take me home.” I ordered. He just stared at me. “Well?!” I said growing impatient.
“I can’t seem to do that. I promised your parents. You’ll believe me when we get there.” he said starting the car. “No Jason. I want to go home. This is kidnapping!” I said pulling out my phone. Jason took my phone and shoved it into his pocket. Real mature.
“Jason! Give it back!” I yelled.
Jason turned onto the freeway.
“I suggest you sit back and relax sweetheart. We still have all day to go.” he said. I looked at him in anger. “You can get your phone back when we get there and you see for yourself that I am not lying to you.” he said then focused on the road ahead. I huffed and sat back in my chair looking out the window. I was not in the mood to even look at Jason nor be in the same car as him.
It was about two in the morning when we pulled into another motel. I sat in the car as I watched Jason walk to the passenger side. He opened the door and held out his hand, palm side up. I stared at him, sadness written across my face. I just wanted to go home. “Anna, please. You need rest.” he said. I kept my stare as I slowly took his hand. He smiled softly as he closed my door. We walked to the front desk together. “Jason Stewart.” he said to the man who looked almost dead, from tiredness. He typed Jason’s name into his computer and then reached into his desk and handed him a key with a room number on it. He thanked the man and we both walked to the our room. Once he opened the door, he let me walk in first. The motel was nice. It wasn’t what you would think from the looks of it outside. There was one queen sized bed, a couch, dresser, bathroom, and TV. I looked at Jason.
“I’ll take the couch tonight.” I said. Jason closed the door behind him. “No. It’s okay. The bed is yours.” he said. I shook my head. “Really, Jason. I can have the couch.” I said. Jason shook his head. “Anna.” he said. I knew I wasn’t going to win this war. I nodded and walked towards the bathroom to shower.
Once the warm water hit me, I felt relax and away from life. After about five minutes of just letting water hit me, I began to wash my body and hair with the motel’s soap and conditioner. I got out wrapping my self in a soft white towel and looked in the mirror. I wiped the steam off the mirror and stared at my reflection.
Everything that Jason told me… I didn’t know if I could believe him or if it was true. I mean, I always knew I was different somehow and I could smell things other people couldn’t, but I never thought of it too much. Maybe he was right. My mom always told me I was put up for adoption because my mom was sick and my dad had passed away, and she only wanted what was best for me.
To know that my parents were both still alive made me want to cry. I felt tears build up until I heard a knock on the door. I sniffed. “Yeah?” I said taking the towel and drying my body and hair. “You okay in there?” he asked. “Yeah. I’ll be out in a second.” I said. With that Jason left the door. I reached into my bag, pulling out pajamas, bra, and panties. I put on the layers of clothing and walked out the bathroom, my hair cold and wet. I walked over to the bed and got underneath the blankets, feeling all the body weight off my feet. “We’ll leave at eight. Goodnight my love.” Jason said, and with that, I fell into a deep sleep.
I woke up to Jason holding me. I looked up at him and felt the tears roll off my cheeks. Jason looked concerned. I buried my face in his chest and cried. “I saw her. I saw my mother.” I whispered. He rubbed my back. “She was so beautiful.” I whispered. Tears picked up. “She’s dead, Jason. My mom is dead.” I cried. Jason shushed me. “Shh… She’s okay.” he whispered. “The men got her. She’s gone. My father as well. My only family.” I cried. Jason rocked me. “It was just a bad dream. It’s okay.” he whispered. I looked up at him. “Will you sleep with me?” I looked at him, teary eyed. Jason nodded and laid next to me. I laid my head on his chest and he wrapped his strong arm around me. “Everything will be okay, Anna.” he whispered. And with that, we both feel asleep.
