I've never really been one for change. It's just not really my forte. So when dad had asked me about moving from our hometown to Montvale, New Jersey, I was less than thrilled. But I didn't have the heart to argue about it so all I said was. "Okay."
I probably should've argued it. I wanted to so badly. There was absolutely no reason to move now. If anything we should have moved when mom died. That would have made sense...But on the plus side, at least it was a nice town.
"Do you want me to drive you to school your first day or...?" My father asks me from across the kitchen Island. He is making his and mom's morning coffee like he did everyday. Even though its been 3 years since mom went, he still makes her coffee. I suppose its really my coffee but we all know it's mom's. No one else would have that much sugar and cream that you could barely taste the coffee anymore.
But that's the way she liked it and that's the way I always drank it.
He slides the cup across the island to me where I am munching down on some toast with Nutella.
I shake my head. No.
"Alright good." He laughs "I needed to take Bradley to his school across town anyway. Are you taking your car or are you walking?" He asked while taking a bite of my toast.
I give him a stern look. He knows not to take my food.
"C'mon Dais. I thought we were trying new things here and being different, better people now."
Yeah well there was nothing wrong with us before. We were fine back home. I just sighed at him.
Then Brad came down and took my last piece of toast. That little...
"Yummmmmmmm. Thanks Dai." He said in an almost mocking tone.
I rolled my eyes. Whatever.
I got up, ruffled Brad's brown curly hair and kissed my dad goodbye as I walked out the door.

After about 15 minutes of walking I finally reached the school. To be honest, it looked beautiful. The building had those gorgeous reflective glass walls and clear hallways suspended in the air for the second and third floors. It just looked so modern and new. I supposed it made sense since practically everyone who lived in town was at least high middle class to just complete millionaires. I had no idea how my dad managed to find a house we could afford in such a luxurious area.
I pulled out my map of the school to try to work my way to the main office where I was supposed to pick up my schedule. It wasn't the easiest task. Especially not for someone who can't read a map to save her life or even just remember which way is right and which is left. Plus theres the whole "cant ask for directions" thing.
Inevitably, I crashed into someone causing me to drop my map as she dropped her iPhone.
"Watch where you're going bitch." the gril said in a rather harsh tone.
"Sorry" I muttered quickly. Reaching to the floor to grab what fell. I picked up her phone and gave it back to the tall brunette girl but my map was no where in sight. I assumed it go lost somewhere in the hall.
"Great. You cracked the case you little whore. That was a specialized $130 case! Ughhhhhh" the girl stormed off giving me a cold shoulder as she passed.
What a lovely first day of senior year I thought to myself. Then all I could think about was why in the world anyone would by a $130 case that could crack just by a small drop. What a waste. I mean who does that? If you're going to buy an expensive case, it should at least be durable I mean c'mon.
