I grabbed my coat off the hanger and stepped outside. It was about 35 degrees in Homewood Alabama, just warm enough to keep the water from freezing. "Go out to the car" My mom said, "We need to talk." She said that too often, and it was always about something little like keeping my room cleaner or going to bed earlier. I put my stuff in the back of our old Ford F-150 and sat in the front. My mom sat down in the drivers seat and turned down my music. "Bailey. You now we love you" she started, "and we want the best for you, and the family of course. Your dad doesn't make good money at the small town vet office, so we've been looking for openings and we found one that we can't turn down." She stopped to build my curiosity. "In Honolulu, Hawaii, a new veterinarian practice opened. It's a beautiful location and the pay is great." She had a cheesy smile plastered on her face. I sat there for a moment, taking everything in. I was born and raised in Homewood. All my friends I've made over the past 13 years will be left behind. I looked at her with disappointment and shock. "Great." I mumbled. "Hey, I know your used to this lifestyle, and I am too, but I think we need a change. We can learn how to surf and get our scuba diving license as well, because I know you've been dreaming about that since you were little. And how many kids can say they live in Hawaii, huh?" I grinned. She turned up the music and we were off to school. Only one week left at cypress middle, before we headed off to the islands. It would be difficult telling my friends, after all we'll be 4,000 miles apart.
