Maddie’s P.O.V.

Today, I was going to Shay’s house to practice our duet. I had to admit I was really nervous. Not because of Shay. No, she was really awesome and we were actually becoming friends quickly. The problem was the fact Liam was going to be there. I still liked him. The fact Shay and I were becoming friends and danced in the same company didn’t help the situation either.

I tentatively knocked on the door. I need to relax. I might not even see Liam here. For all I know he could be out with his friends. Yeah, he probably is. He has a lot of friends at school. “Maddie?”

I was so deep in thought I didn’t even notice someone had opened in the door. I knew that voice anywhere though, “Hi Liam.”

“Come in,” he moved to the side to give me space to walk in. “Do you want something to drink?”

“No thanks. Is Shay here? We have to practice our duet.”

“Oh yeah! I forget about that. She’s in the basement setting the music up. Do you want me to show you the way?”

“Yeah, thanks.”

As we were walking I couldn’t help ask, “Liam?” He looked over at me and I took that as a sign to continue, “If you forgot that I was coming to practice my duet, why’d you think I was here?”

He quickly turned pink. “I don’t know…”

“Please?”

“I thought you were here to hang out with me,” he quickly turned away.

“You didn’t ask me to come over today though?”

“Yeah I know,” he shrugged.

We walked in silence for the rest of the walk. “The basement is down those stairs.”

“Thanks Liam,” he gave me a quick hug. I wasn’t expecting it. I couldn’t help a smile from spreading on my face. Oh gosh, I hope he can’t see how happy that made me. When I was about to walk down I turned back and said, “If you had asked me though, I would’ve said yes.” He smiled and nodded and then walked away.

I walked downstairs and saw Shay already practicing her parts of the duet. “Hey Shay!”

She whipped her head around, “Hi Maddie.”

“Want to start practicing?”

We went over the dance at least 10 times before we decided it was time for a break. We were going up to the kitchen to get some water. When we got there, my heart stopped. Liam was sitting on top of the counter texting. I probably look terrible right now. I’m sweaty and my hair is a mess. Maybe if we get water fast enough and then go back downstairs, he won’t even notice us.

“Liam, move your butt. I need to get us cups,” Shay shoved him out of the way. There goes that plan. Liam smiled over at me. I suddenly felt extremely self-conscious. He started walking over to where I was. Ugh, I probably smell gross too.

“Maddie, come with me,” he held my hand to lead me the way somewhere. The feeling sent sparks shooting through my body. I’m really going to have to stop freaking out every time he touches me.

“What about Shay?” I looked over and saw her getting water for us. I’d feel guilty just leaving her.

“Please?” He gave me the sweetest puppy dog face I’ve ever seen. I feel bad but I can’t say no to that. I nodded and he led me upstairs.

We ended up in his room. His room is way bigger than mine and a lot nicer too. He plopped down on his bed and motioned for me to do the same. His bed was really big so I sat as far as possible from him.

“Maddie, you can come closer. I don’t bite.”

I slid closer to him. It felt awkward. “So, why’d you want me to come here with you?”

“I want to ask you something.”

“Okay.”

“I know we haven’t known each other for that long. Only for about 2 weeks. So I’d understand if you say no.”

My heart started thumping and I was starting to get impatient. “What do you have to ask me?”

“Will you go out with me?”

“Like on a date?”

“Yes. Again, I understand if you don’t want to but I really like you. If you give me a chance, I won’t mess it up.”

“I’d love to.”

“Really?” He seemed so shocked. I just nodded. He kissed me on the cheek and blushed really hard. My face was burning exactly where he kissed me.

“I have really bad luck when it comes to interrupting things,” Shay suddenly appeared. This is the second time she’s caught in a very embarrassing situation with a guy.

“No, it’s fine. Want to continue working on our dance?” Shay nodded.

“I’ll text you the details tonight Maddie.”

“Okay.”

I was almost out the door when I heard Liam call my name. I turned to look back at him. “You look stunning today.”
