It was raining. I was walking home from my friend's house at 10:00. When I saw headlights coming from behind me, I didn't get too nervous. I lived in a small neighborhood, most of the residents were elderly. And, afterall, I only lived 8 houses away. It was nice living so close to my best friend. I nver thought anything could happen. But it did. The car slowed as it got closer, and eventually stopped next to me. As the window rolled down, I recognized the driver as Garvis. He lived 3 houses down from my best friend, 11 houses down from me. I didn't know his last name or how old he was, probably mid- 30's, but I knew that he lived with is 78 year old mother and took care of her. She has a lot of health problems, so he moved in with her a few years ago. I didn't talk to him much, but I assumed he was harmless. First mistake. He rolled down the window "Hey, do you need a ride? This weather sucks. I'm on my way to the store anyway. I can drop you off on the way." Why is he going to the store at 10:00? "Umm, no thanks, I grew up in Oregon, so I'm used to the rain. I actually kinda like it. Besides, I can see my house from here." He smiled and said " Ok, well at least let me lend you an umbrella. That sweatshirt just soaks it all in." I thought for a second. What could be the harm in borrowing an umbrella? "Ok, sure." he smiled and reached into the back seat. He handed me a dark blue umbrella. I immediatly opened it, eager to get out of the rain. I heard something fall to the ground, and when I bent down to pick it up, I saw it was just a rock. What was a rock doing in his umbrella. I turned around to see Garvis standing right in front of me. I haden't even heard him get out of the car. A million things were racing through my mind. Before I got a chance to sort out my thoughts and say anything, he punched me square in the jaw and the ground rushed up to meet me, just before everything went black.
