Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words

I've never been able to write poetry

Trust me all the attempts ended woefully

Not to say I haven't tried

All the pieces of paper I've eyed

Torn out of notebooks strewn on my bedroom floor

To me writing poetry has always been a chore

On the contrary reading it has been a remedy

For the wounds caused by my enemies

All the broken bones

Not caused by sticks and stones

But by words

Unlike poetry there was no beauty in those birds

They flew at my window and they shattered it

Like a plane with no pilot in it's cockpit

Nothing is what I saw in their eyes

Every time they decided to ignore my cries

Despite the fact I felt like I was I did not break

I spat and hissed at them like a threatened snake

Poetry is language at its most powerful

Its often wielded by those whose ideas of language isn't colourful

You see they don't understand the full meaning

Of the words they use when they're demeaning

They tell us to look in the mirror

To make us feel like we're a typographical error

I've always felt like I had things to prove

So I predominantly focused on making people approve

Continuously displaying my talents

Endeavouring to keep my persona balanced

Amongst people who put me down

Laughed at me endlessly like I was their personal clown

Poetry is a painting which is heard and not seen

It's the voice of the things we dream

A poem begins with a lump in the throat

Nobody truly realises emotions are what keep us afloat

Emotions make us feel sane in a world filled with insanity

They give everyone hope in ever darkening humanity

Next time you feel worthless

Remember you've got a purpose

This poem is living proof

An undeniable verifiable truth

Now I see this I can write openly

I've never been able to write poetry
