It was at times like these when he allowed himself to be perfectly happy.
The loud booms of thunder and the continuous pitters and patters of rain outside. Drowning himself in the taste of music and tuning out everything else around him. The cozy feel of warm, thick sweaters and hot cocoa against the cold, biting temperature of the night. As the storm got impossibly stronger, Jeon Wonwoo snuggled more into his personal safe haven, a small tug upward across his full lips.
He's all sunshine and butterflies. Honey and blue skies. The soft chirping of birds and twinkling laughter of children playing around him. Floating against the warm summer breeze and enjoying the sounds of the outdoors. The scorching heat from the sun against his skin and bursts of energy in the hot, broad daylight. As the day became increasingly brighter, Kim Mingyu ran freely, arms outstretched, mirth and laughter coating his crooked smiles.
He felt whole. Complete.
Distance is not a problem for Wonwoo. Setting himself apart from the crowd became a natural instinct for the pale, raven-haired boy. He reveled inside the confines of his broad mind and self-built walls, opting to keep everything hidden from the outside. His world consisted of loud rock music and rough sketches against his small worn-out notebook. As he walked through his life, never did he think of a twist in fate.
Society is where Mingyu nests in. He lives in a world of laughter and people, of games and fun. A social butterfly, as everyone would call. Anybody who stands in an approximate of 5-foot radius couldn't bear to stand the tall boy's contagious smiles, brighter than the sun itself. Sports and social circles dominated the life of the lad. Changes can't hurt, can they?
It doesn't mean anything.
The first time they met, Wonwoo was sitting at the very back of the library. Listening to the music blasting from his headphones with his head buried deep inside of a thick history book. Pale hands turned the page every 2 minutes or so. It was half past one in the afternoon before he was suddenly shook to life by some unknown creature. As he looked up with what he hoped to be a murderous glare, he was met with sparkling eyes filled with glee and a handsome face not ten centimeters away from his own.
Mingyu was currently in a very intense game of hide and seek, courtesy of his two pricks of friends, Soonyoung and Seokmin. The loser had to pay for all of the trio's afternoon snacks for two consecutive weeks, and given that two cans of soda and a packet of potato chips could not last even for just five minutes, a huge burden was going to be planted on Mingyu's broad shoulders. Running around the school's monstrous campus is hell even for the athlete. Panting and about to faint, he thought of one location that two of his best friends wouldn't dare to enter.
As the tall boy went inside the library, all eyes were on him. Not that he minded, of course. He was used to the attention. Like I said, all, well except for one. Mingyu scanned the room for potential hiding places and landed to the very back of the library. A pinch of dismay clouded his features, as he expected it to be empty. As he went closer, Mingyu found himself observing a boy around his age, reading an obnoxiously huge book. The mystery lad had a very pale skin tone that contrasted heavily with his own tanned one. His bangs obscured his eyes and his face housed sharp features. From his tall nose bridge to his well- sculpted jaw, he was gorgeous. Mingyu had never been so struck in his life.
Feeling overly excited, the huge boy with puppy-like attributes bounced his way towards the mystery, forgetting his original purpose. He was more than eager to strike conversation and for some nameless reason, felt drawn to the other. He already anticipated it to be harder than it looks, given the blank, pointed expression the other boy wore. But Mingyu was willing to talk.
Needless to say, after hours of chit chats with the lad he had learned to be Wonwoo, Mingyu even felt indebted to pay for Soonyoung and Seokmin's snacks.
But now you are more than just a missing piece of my life.
Years have passed, and their friendship became something neither of them can explain. It all started with subtle touches here and there, lingering glances when they thought no one was looking, and longer times spent in each other's company. Racing hearts and flushed faces play a vital role in their everyday life.
Day by day, Mingyu would find something to make the other smile. Feeling blessed and extremely content after, the taller would not rest until Wonwoo made that dazzling grin for several times more.
Wonwoo, on the other hand, knows that the other practically craves for attention. 'Spoiling' him, as the pale lad would say, is his guilty pleasure. Whether it be hugs or holding hands or compliments, the slightly-shorter would comply. Mingyu wants his favorite hyung to himself. Wonwoo gladly submits.
Missing fractions they didn't know that existed were filled by each other. They are what fire is to ice, of light is to darkness; but complete as a whole. Love comes in the most unexpected of ways, in the most unplanned of times. And when they confessed, no words were exchanged. A gentle touch of lips and the sweetest of hugs was all they needed.
