Two months after Rima and Alistair discover her pregnancy...
"Remember to prepare for the practical exam next week!" Rima called to her students as they stood from their desks with their book bags and filed out of the classroom.
"Bye Professor!" one of the students, Yasmin, called.
"See you next week!" another named Shama, said, with a smile.
A number of students waved, and Rima smiled and waved back. She turned back to her desk and began sorting some scrolls and books on the surface as the sounds of footsteps and muffled voices faded. She took a sip of tea from the cup on her desk and began to put away some of her materials into her own bag.
After cleaning the center of her desk, she turned towards the window and saw students and other professors milling around in the courtyard below or moving towards the market as they talked. She watched them contentedly, lightly caressing the small bump of her belly with a smile.
"Rima."
The deep voice of her husband made her turn around, and her smile widened when she saw Alistair move towards her from the doorway.
"What's wrong, honey? Your shift isn't over yet."
"I just came to see you," he said, cupping her face in both hands when he stopped in front of her and kissing her cheek.
She smiled a little. "You don't need to see me every day at work. You see me before and after work, every day, at home," she pointed out, a little teasingly. "And the embassy is right next to the University. I'm sure Representative Malika needs her bodyguard whenever he's available."
"Malika understands how important the both of you are to me," Alistair said, lightly resting his hand upon Rima's belly and rubbing it. "Besides, it's my lunch break now. I was thinking we could both get some sarma from the Royal Bazaar." Her heart seemed to flutter a little when she looked up into his gentle emerald green gaze.
She was about to retort and tease him for failing his job again when he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her flush against him, and kissed her deeply. Rima promptly lost her train of thought.
Alistair pulled away and they smiled at each other, their cheeks flushed and their eyes bright. He intertwined his fingers with hers, and she let him lead her out of the classroom toward the Bazaar.
