[ Carlos ]

Everything was a dull throb. My head, chest, legs, just everything. I couldn't understand how I hadn't seen that car, gosh, that was why I stayed away from ice-cream. The day I stand up to myself and finally break off a toxic relationship is the day I get hit by a car. The hell even is that?

Antonio... I had to admit, never had I seen someone so naturally pale and pull it off. The man was simply gorgeous with his olive green eyes and his chiseled features, he also just screamed Italian with his accent. I bit my lip and slumped into the hospital bed. I wondered every time someone passed by my room if it would be him and if he'd decide to stop by.

The feeling of something bad happening had stopped the moment he had entered my room. I honestly wasn't sure if I'd be able to breath, he just...took it away from me. I groaned, I am so hopeless. I thought face palming.

"Carlos!" I turned to the door to see a panic stricken Camile. She had tears in her eyes as she ran over to me and held me to her chest. "Oh, my poor baby, I'm so sorry, what happened?" She pulled away to look at me. I smiled thoughtfully as she went to occupy the seat Antonio had sat in the day before, somehow, I didn't want her to sit in it. I shook my head at the ridiculous thought.

"I was hit by a car," I said in feigned cheer and she gapped. "I have no idea how!" I beamed sarcastically before huffing and setting myself back down onto the bed. "I'm absolutely ridiculous." She rubbed my palm.

"OK, tell me what happened with Phillip, he won't answer anyone's call, in fact, he went out of town." I perked up, immediately sitting up straight with shock.

"What?" I asked and she nodded.

"He left this morning, before even his assistant could call him about his daily meeting. She said he wanted to go on vacation or something. "I gapped in utter shock, Phillip never takes a vacation, not unless it's a holiday and pre-planned. I blinked and looked away from Camile with a loud sigh, I bit my lip.

"Wow, for once, he did something to surprise me." I said more to myself and she snorted.

"The entire town is shocked by this." I chuckled, this town knew just about everything simply because it was so small.

"Well, at least I gave him a piece of my mind before he ran." She squealed.

"Oh! I heard and can I just say how proud I am of you!? "She hugged me tightness and I laughed knowing already that she'd be happy. "Have to admit, I didn't think you had it in you."

"Neither did I." I said softly, my head turning towards the door and I frowned more in disappointment than anything.

"What? Where you expecting someone? "Camile asked, grabbing my attention and I flushed, had I honestly thought he'd come see me today? We barely knew each other after all and besides, he was a doctor, he was busy with patients.

"Oh, uh, nope...just...curious." I tried for nonchalant but Camile only snorted and looked me over.

"Uh-huh, yeah right, spill. "She demanded leaning back into her chair." Tell me all about it." I flushed with furrowed brows and opted for innocence.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." I said.

"You are such a bad liar, Carlos, it's a wonder why you even try sometimes." She chuckled. "Is it a nurse? I saw some pretty cute male nurses here, not sure if they are gay though, but it's worth a shot." She said enthusiastically and I groaned.

"Stop, you are worse than mom sometimes." She grinned at me.

"Oh, you so not want to find out the falsehood of that statement." I pouted just as a woman came in with my lunch for the day, she smiled politely at us and placed the tray on the table. I thanked her and watched her leave only to pout as nobody else entered the room. "Come on, spill, obviously you are waiting for someone. Who is it?" I shrugged and she narrowed her eyes pointedly.
