Chapter 2:
Different
Derek was walking through the school hallway, his red-and-black one-strap backpack slung upon his shoulder. He was thinking about his mother. He pictured her on her bed, taking slow breaths in agony. Derek let a tear run down his face. He would be heartbroken without her...
"Hey, twerp!"
Derek felt himself fall flat on his face upon the the time floor of the school hallway. He opens his eyes and looked up to see Peter Davis and his crew looking down at him. Since 4th grade when Peter found out about Derek, he had been his bully ever since. Peter was very popular and great at getting out of trouble, so he was always safe from detention. He had never been grounded in his life.
"S'up Peter."
"How's it going, Derek Dwarf."
"That isn't my name!"
"It should be, shorty."
"Stop it!"
"So, how's your mom?"
"Don't you talk about her!"
Derek was on his feet again, his hands balled into fists, his teeth gritted hard. He despised when people made fun of his mother, and Peter was doing just that.
"Why not? I might not get the chance to again, with her dying and all."
Peter cackled carelessly and hi-fived a nearby comrade. Now Derek was furious. He lunged at Peter, who quickly darted out of the way. Derek then found himself hurling towards a locker, with he collided with hard. The side of his head throbbed with pain. Peter cackled hysterically once more and hi-fived his friend another time. He and his crew then walked away. Derek pushed himself away from the tough, steel surface of the locker. He sighed. There was nothing he could do about Peter. Whenever he tried to get him in trouble, Peter would just find a way to get Derek in detention instead. If only he could just go away...
"Hey Derek!"
Derek turned to find himself looking at the familiar face of Eric Lee, his best and only friend.
"Dude, Allison McKinley just said she wanted to see you after 7th period ends!"
"Allison McKinley?!"
Eric nodded his head "Yes". Derek felt relieved and extremely happy. Allison McKinley was the cutest girl in Jefferson Middle School, and she had probably been the only other person besides Eric. that been nice to him.
"Dude, I feel like the happiest man alive!"
"You're so lucky, man! Though you better not let Peter Davis know. You know how jealous he gets, especially if it's your luck."
Derek nodded to confirm he understood.
"Well, see you after school, Romeo."
Derek laughed at his friend's joke. Whenever he saw Eric, his friend would lighten his mood. He thought about this a moment before he heard the bell ring.
🌀🌀🌀
Derek ran over to the other side of the school building, where he found Allison McKinley waiting for him.
"Hey Allison!"
Hello, Derek."
Derek walked over to where Allison was standing. She was beautiful, with long, blond hair running down her back, sparkling, vivid blue eyes, and smooth, pink lips. There were even rumors that she didn't wear makeup. She was just that good!
