I do not own any of the pictures I have used for this story

I lay on the couch in the living room my chocolate brown hair flowing down into a curly pile on the floor next to me just begging to be brushed. While my twin brother busied himself in the kitchen, his emerald eyes darting out the window at three second intervals.
"Alex, don't worry mum and her boyfriend are not going to be home till late what are you so worried about. This is the first time we have been able to relax since she brought him home."
"I know Lexa I'm just worried we have been locked in our room and the one day they leave us home alone, I can't help but feel like it's a trap."
"Yeah I get it I'm just happy to be out of that room. What are you cooking anyway it smells delightful."
"Cookies, bet you can't guess what kind."
"I would say almond chocolate, but then again that's my favorite. So I'm going to go with snicker doodles cause that's yours."
"Must you always think of me so selfishly of course they are your favorite, but there is going to be a little surprise cause I made them with different ingredients."
"Like what."
"Like white chocolate and green food coloring, Jacks face at these will be worth the screaming at I'm going to get. These cookies look like I made them out of baby poop."
I smiled, I hadn't seen Alex this happy in months. I sat in pure joy watching his lanky 6 foot 5 inch form, dance around the kitchen making icing. He used to pick on me for stopping growing at 5 foot, but now he just realizes that he has to get the things I can't reach.
Alex finally finished cooking and brought me cookies. About that time we hear our mother and Jack fighting in the front yard. We both spring off the couch and run to our bedroom, then suddenly we hear our mother scream.
Alex looks at me startled, then I saw something in his eyes change, the look of murder that I have only ever seen him give Jack when he was screaming at me. But I could feel it to, that was our mother and no one was allowed to hurt her like that. We both got up and ran for the door but we got to the door right as it flew open to reveal our mother covered in blood.
"Run!," our mother screamed,"Run and don't look back".
My vision went blurry and all I could tell was that Alex had picked me up and was sprinting for the forest. I could hear whatever was attacking was ripping apart the house. I could no longer hear my mother screaming or the attackers. Alex put me on the ground and told me I had to run for my self, but about that time something grabbed the back of my coat. I was pulled up through the tree branches yelling and kicking trying to get free, but my attacker grabbed my throat and I could feel my body crying for air. Slowly I could no longer feel my body or hear and my vision was fading quickly.
Waking to the sounds of leaves rustling as the cool breeze blew across my face and the pollen from the spring flowers tickling my nose. I opened my eyes finding myself in hiking clothes with my hair pulled back in a braid. There is a backpack lying next to me so I open it to find a spare set of dress clothes, and a small knife. I returned the fancy clothes to the pack and put the knife in my boot.
I tossed the pack onto my back as I started walking, having no idea where I was or where I was going. All I knew was that I had to find out what happened to my family and figure out how I ended up in the forest with no idea how I got there, or how I survived my attacker when all I remember is passing out from lack of oxygen.
About five hours later I got to a town just as dusk hits. Suddenly out of nowhere a tall, muscular man with blue black hair comes out from behind a tree.
"Wow that took you forever to get here, names Blue, what's your name ?" Blue said with a heavy Italian accent.
"What do you mean it took me forever I started in the middle of nowhere, literally!" I ranted.
"Okay, okay but it will be worth it now get into the other outfit I packed for you and we can go".
"Go where".
"To a party of course it's your birthday".
"No my birthday is in the winter."
"Your human birthday might have been in the winter but your vampire birthday is today. Now get dressed because this is a night for celebration".Every part of my mind was telling me this was wrong but something in my soul was telling me this was right. So I got into the black dress with a short tutu like skirt and ridiculous stilettos. "I hope you know I feel ridiculous wearing this fancy outfit."
He just laughed and shook his head. We headed out of the forest and into the outskirts of the town to a small but angelic house. Blue walked right in the door, I hesitate at the entrance, but see this young girl sitting on the floor playing with a baby, and I immediately feel better.
I follow Blue through the the living room into the kitchen, where a woman was using a full length closet mirror to put on makeup.
"Hey Elise could you help us with something?" Blue asks.
"Sure. What do you need?"
"Lexa is in an amazing dress and shoes but has no crest, I was just wondering if you could help with that?"
"She also appears to have no accessories and she doesn't have her hair done. Of course I'll help she can't go to her own party not dressed up."
"Wait my own party." I say.
"Yes it is your first day in the clan, so the whole clan is throwing you a party. Now Blue go finish helping set up we will be there when the baby sitter gets here to watch Jade and Caleb."
She then turned to me and grabbed the end of my braid and pulled out the pony tail letting my hair fall into loose curls down my back. She had me sit in a chair and started painting my face. She finished my makeup and left the room so I got up and looked, I looked so regal it startled me my green eyes were framed by long black eyelashes and dark gray eye-shadow with black eyeliner curling away from my eyes turning my face into a mask. And the blood red lipstick was the only color that made it not look goth. She walked back into the room holding a necklace that was silver with black and red jewels with a tiara to match. Also she had a masquerade mask.
She handed them to me to put on. "I can't wear that I'm afraid I'll loose it."
"Well you don't have to worry about that because it's yours we all get a set when we come into the family." She pointed to her own necklace that was identical to mine, "You see we all wear our necklaces and we keep our tiaras on a shelf in the living room. It's how we show our crest, the men have crests and rings." Suddenly someone knocks on the door making me jump. "Oh goodie the babysitter is here." Elise opens the door to a teenage girl with blond hair and black eyes. "Hey Jazz so glad you got here when you did we just finished getting ready, the kids have been fed and bathed, the rest of the instructions are on the fridge please don't mess up Caleb's schedule. It took us forever to get it established." The girl nods and heads to the kitchen. Elise grabs two hooded coats and gives me one and puts the other on. I put mine on and we head out the door with our hoods up and our heads down. I follow her down some back alleyways to a small house that looks abandoned and leads me through the house to the basement. Which looks empty aside for a fridge that is cemented into the wall. She leans against the fridge and places her necklace against it. The fridge immediately slides to the side and reveals a concrete staircase leading down into darkness.
We proceed down the stairs and into a wide corridor that is lit only by the torches on the walls. After about 5 minutes we make it to a door. Elise stops before she opens the door to give me a look over and attempts to smooth out my unruly hair
