I spent the night on Madusa's couch. The emptiness of the room was somewhat soothing, reminding me of my dream before I woke up in the forest. It didn't take long before I fell asleep. My dreams were chaotic and filled with fear. Images flashed too fast to make out, voices sounded incoherently, all but one word: Tora.

I woke with a start. A delightful smell wafted into the living room. I followed my nose to find Madusa in the kitchen frying eggs, causing my mouth to water.

"Perfect timing." Madusa said, setting a plate in front of me. "Listen,Tora. Something has come up. I have to leave for a while."

As I listened to her, I wondered briefly if she would take me with her.But of course I was disappointed.

"A friend of mine is going to look after you." She finished.

The next day, Madusa brought me to a small, two-story house. A woman with dark hair, highlighted with purple and aqua, came out of the house to greet us.

"Hello Tora." She said, her voice warm. "I'm Allana, an old friend o fMadusa."

Madusa and Allana exchanged a few words before Madusa came over to give her farewells. She knelt down in front of me. "Goodbye Tora. We will meet again."

My eyes met hers and suddenly I was in her tight embrace. She stood and gave me a quick smile before waving goodbye. I watched as her car pulled out of the driveway and turned a corner. As she disappeared, I suddenly felt alone and empty. What happens now?

"Well, time for lunch." Allana stated and marched inside.

I raised an eyebrow and followed. What a strange woman.

My mouth watered at the smell of meat as it sizzled on the stove. Allana fixed my plate before her own and set it down in front of me. My stomach rumbled in anticipation at the sight of pork chops, eggs, and green beans. The familiar taste of the eggs was soothing and the delicious taste of the pork chops was satisfying. I frowned at the green beans.

"Just try them."

I looked up to see Allana eating her own green beans. With a silent sigh, I forked up a few and put them in my mouth. The taste was dreadful and the slimy texture was near unbearable.

Allana suddenly laughed. She must have seen the look of disgust on my face, because she said, "Well, we know one thing about you. You don't like green beans."

My lips twitched in a faint smile. I liked Allana.

For the rest of the day, Allana and I played games, mostly card games. While we played, she told me stories about herself. About how her husband was a scientist with many different degrees, and how she was a biologist. They had met in a bar. Allana had been there for a drink like any other person. Alex, however, had been there for some crazy experiment. It was love.

Allana and I both looked up as the front door opened. "Speak of the devil." Allana smirked.

Alex had short black hair and wore glasses. His skin was slightly darker than Allana's and he had a funny looking smile. He greeted Allana with a kiss, then turned towards me and said, "You must be Tora. It's nice to meet you. I'm Alex."

I nodded, glancing at Allana. Is he kind like her?

Allana smiled encouragingly, then whispered something in Alex's ear.

Alex nodded, then smiled at me. "Well, farewell for now." He said, leaving the room.

My seafoam green eyes followed him curiously. What's so important?

*~*~*~*~*~

The next day, Allana sat down on the couch and patted the seat next to her. There was no sign of Alex. Allana was quiet for a while after I sat down. Finally, she said, "I want you to talk to me. Tell me something, anything. Ask a question. Whatever you want."

I hesitated. "Why?"

Allana smiled. "Because I care about you. So, go ahead and ask another question."
