Chapter 1

The wind howled in between the huge trees as he ran faster and faster through the thick, dense forest. Far off from the original path, the shadows continued to follow him. They were catching up- and fast.

Ahead of the shadows he jumped over fallen branches and dodged rocks carelessly. Speed made him clumsy. Suddenly he tripped over a tree root and tumbled down the hill.

Down he tumbled over the moist terrain that was the forest floor. He came to a stop and pulled himself onto his paws.

Whitey the kitten was lost. Panting, he sat there injured and tired.

In the distance the shadows still followed him.

Panicked, Whitey took off sprinting deep in the forest. He looked back for a short moment and saw them. He darted to the left and hid behind a tree. Out of breath and out of options, Whitey just sat there. Minutes passed by and he peeked around the tree. All he could see was the shadows moving along, fluid and quick swallowing up the forest.

“I’m gonna die,” he cried silently.

Carefully he got up and ran in the other direction to which the shadows were going. Tiny drops of rain landed on him. The rain got heavier and heavier. To make matters worse it was getting darker.

When he was sure that the shadows were no where in sight, he stopped. But he was wrong. Near by, the shadows caught sight of him again.

“He’s over there,” the shadows called out.

Whitey leapt up and ran. This time, he was off for sure.

“You’re never going to catch me!” he meowed.

He realized that he was no longer in their view. He smiled triumphantly. But his victory was short lived when he came crashing into a fallen tree!

He shook his head feeling dazed and awfully confused.

“TAG!! You’re it!” shouted a very familiar voice, followed by a very familiar slap on the back. He turned around.

Suddenly, the forest disappeared and was replaced by a white farm house and a huge paddock of sheep. Sitting high and mighty in front of him smiled his tabby twin sister Blue. Whitey looked at Blue, then the obstacle- the house.

“Well, then … tag?” Said whitey and tapped his sister’s paw. Before he could make a run for it she tagged him back and ran away.

The forest appeared again as Whitey chased after his sister.
