Goodnight
"You'll be fine, Elizabeth," my annoying step-father told me. My parents were going out to dinner for their stupid anniversary and they were making me babysit the neighbor's kids so they can come too.
"You know I'm shy around new people and I've never met these kids bef-" he cut me off.
"I said you'll be fine ok?"
"Wow you don't need to be rude about it," I mumbled under my breath.
"Excuse me?!"
"Never mind." They invited our stupid neighbors to their stupid dinner just so I can get over my stupid shyness. We started to walk over to the neighbor's house, but something felt off - like I was being watched. I shrugged it off and kept walking.
While we were waiting to have the door opened, my mom criticized what I was wearing. "You're babysitting! Why would you wear that?!" I looked down at my black mini skirt and fish-net leggings. Then I looked up to my bright pink shirt with a grey skull on it.
"I'm expressing my feelings for tonight. Get off my back."
"You're such a disappointme-" The door opened. My pain and agony starts now...
"Hi, Elizabeth!" My neighbors, the Kramers, yelled too enthusiastically.
"H-hi Mr. and Mrs. Kramer how are you?"
"I'm good darling, thank you!" she replied, "The kids are right this way," she said as she led me to them. "Jack, Jessica! Elizabeth is here!" The two children came running down the hallway towards me.
"Bye Mom, bye Dad!" Jessica and Jack said simultaneously. The parents headed out the door and I waved them away. Once the car was out of sight, I turned slowly to face the children who were staring at me with blank smiles on their faces.
"H-hi guys" I spoke nervously.
"Let's play a game!" Jack said excitedly.
"A-alright, what game?"
"Hide-and-seek!" Jessica shouted. We played for hours; they never seemed to want to stop! I was really lightening up with them and I think my shyness was going away. I couldn't find them anymore, so I shouted for them to go to sleep. They replied quickly with a simple "Ok!" I stayed downstairs and turned the TV on. The news came on. I didn't feel like changing it, so I jest left it playing about some dog that ran away in a different neighborhood. I didn't want to even listen to the news so I just played on my phone. All of a sudden, the news channel played a really annoying alarm sound; I'm guessing to get my attention. It worked pretty well because before I knew it, I was staring at the TV.
A loud voice stated, "ATTENTION! BE CAREFUL!" Then a newscaster came on talking about a murderer to look out for. I wasn't really worried because I see these stories all the time. They're never near me, so what's the point of listening? I continued on my phone. When the TV stated the murderer's location, I became tense and my eyes slowly rose up to the screen. They said he was in my area...
I tried not to freak out and just went back on my phone. I mean it's like one in a thousand chance that he'll end up at this exact house, right? As I finished my thought, the doorbell rang. I couldn't decide whether to answer it or not so I just sat there with my heart beating incredibly fast. I looked up at the clock. 11:32. Who would be at the door this late? I got up and started to walk. I rested my hand on the door knob... I started to slowly open it... I finally pulled it open and... There was no one there? Stupid kids. All of a sudden, there was a knock on the back door. I started to tremble again as I walked towards where the knock came from. I stopped quickly when a knock on the window occurred. Then another. And another. And another until all the windows had been knocked on. I dropped to the floor and tried calling for help. My phone isn't turning on? I kept trying until I noticed my battery had been taken out and was missing.
"But it was just here a minute ago..." I was shaking by now. I started to think... "THE CHILDREN!" I screamed. I ran upstairs to check on them. They were safely asleep in their beds, "Whoo," I said.
I went back downstairs since everything seemed to have calmed down. I tripped on a toy coming down the stairs and fell to the bottom when all the lights went out at once. I ran over to the light switch, but it didn't work. My eyes were bulging as I continuously flickered at the lights. They came back on about a minute later and I took a breath of relief. I kept my head low because I was still traumatized. I slipped on something and smacked my head on the table trying to heading back to the couch. I got up to see what it was. There was blood all over the floor! I felt my head to see if it was mine, but I wasn't bleeding and there was nothing there... I was confused so I walked over to the couch again, but as I looked up, I screamed. There was blood covering the entire house! The lights went out again, and of course, I screamed once more. The lights came back on, but nothing seemed different. I put my hands over my eyes and started crying. When I moved my hands, I noticed they were covered in blood. I looked down and my entire body was drenched with blood, but it wasn't mine... I sunk to the floor again because I just wanted everything to be over. The lights turned off and I was loudly screaming and crying at the same time. When they came back on, I didn't know if what I was seeing was real.
I screamed at the top of my lungs, "JACK! JESSICA! WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME?!" The two children I was babysitting were hanging from the ceiling by their hands and feet. They were blue and purple from being suffocated. I could not stop crying. My life seemed to be the worst it could ever get. I had no clue how anything could be any worse than it already is. I seemed to have spoken too soon... The lights flickered on and off in a strobe-like matter. Each time the lights came back on, a man-shaped figure got closer and closer to me. I was screaming and trying to run away, but all the doors and windows were locked. The figure was still getting closer and I had nowhere to run. I was still trying, though. The strobe affect was messing up my eyes and causing me to run into everything, which made me slower. I slammed into a wall and got super dizzy. Get up, Elizabeth! I couldn't find the energy to stand up. The figure was now running at me. He took out a sharp, glass-like object and looked like he was getting ready to throw it.
He spoke with a low, swift voice and said, "Goodnight, Elizabeth." The sharp object flew from his hand and nailed me right in the chest. The room seemed to darken and everything went black.
