*~*~* Alex's POV *~*~*
"ALEX!!"
I heard AJ scream, but there was no way I was going to turn back, not when my brother and Spitz were trapped in the school. I sprinted through the door and was hit with darkness, the only source of light was the moonlight shining through the windows. As I sprinted down the hallway screaming for Spitz or J, I noticed that the once white walls were now a sickly gray. I was sprinting toward the fire when I heard a yell. I couldn't distinguish what they said but I knew it came from one of the dorms. I sprinted to every door in the hallway opening each door and yelling, and I always received the same answer, silence. I was getting closer and closer to the fire until I could see the flames making their way toward me. I kept on hearing the voice yelling, but now I couldn't tell what direction it came from.
Like the idiot I am, I just spun around looking down each hallway, until I heard a piercing scream slice through the air. I whipped around to the sound and I came face to face with the roaring fires. I was frozen to the spot, I couldn't move my legs even though my brain was yelling at them to run away, they didn't. I stood there in the middle of the hallway, everything began to fade away until all that I could see was the fire, stretching out as if inviting me in. I couldn't hear anything but a deafening silence that made the fire look more captivating. The smoke wrapped around me like a blanket, the heat instantly warming up my insides, took a deep breathe and that's when I snapped out of my trance and began to choke on the smoke. I couldn't hear the screaming or yelling anymore, all I heard was the fire's destruction as the ceiling began to slowly fall apart.
I dropped to the floor hoping that I could get under the smoke so I can stop choking, but the smoke followed me down and its long ghostly hands grasped at my neck as it blew its deathly breath into my face making me inhale more. I felt myself slipping away as my vision began to blur and I felt light headed. I tried crawling away from the fire, but the smoke blocked my vision, trapping me in its arms. I looked all around me, but couldn't see anything besides a dark grey that seemed to get darker, and darker, and darker until all I saw was black.
"Alex! Come on sleeping beauty its time to wake up! Mom wants you to help with breakfast!"
I slowly opened my eyes and saw a blurry figure in front of me. I slowly sat up, rubbed my eyes, and opened them again to see my dad standing above me, smiling down at me with love in his eyes. I immediately backed up to the furthest corner of my bed and felt the wall behind me. His face fell and he looked at me concerned.
"Alexis, what's the matter?"
he said as he reached a hand out and I whimpered as I cowered and pushed myself further into the wall.
"Sweetie, it's ok, I'm not going to hurt you, I would never hurt you, you are my little angel, my sweet pea, my everything"
He said and I can hear the hurt and affection in his voice as he reached his hand out again, but this time I didn't move away, instead I reached forward and placed my hand in his as he slowly pulled me to him and gave me a warm hug.
"I love you Alexis, and I don't know what I would do without you,"
he whispered into my ear and I felt a hot tear slip down my cheek and fall with an inaudible splash onto his shoulder. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders and squeezed him tight taking in this moment that I thought would never happen.
"Come on Sweet Pea, your mom wants you to help with breakfast,"
I pulled away, nodded my head, and began to get up from my bed. I looked around the room as we exited and realized it was our old house before my mom died and before my father became the monster that he was. The walls were still a soft pink with posters of kittens and puppies around the walls. My bed was pushed up against the corner of my room where my pink princess sparkled netting was pulled to the side. I realized I was clutching something in my hand and when I looked down I saw the last thing I expected. Mr. Hoppers. I looked down at the blue soft bunny and brought it up to my chest and hugged it close. My mom got me this bunny when I was 3 and ever since than I always held it close, until she died, my father didn't want anything to remember her by because it hurt him too much so one night when I walked out of my room and was heading to J's because I had a nightmare, my little self was wearing a pink night gown and I held my bunny by the little paws and it was bigger than me so it dragged against the floor as I wiped away my tears and walked to J's room. Once I was at the door my dad came down the hallway, this was all before he drank, he looked at me and his eyes immediately started to soften until his eyes landed on my bunny and than he looked broken. He came up to me and kneeled down.
