My fourth grade teacher, Mrs. H always told us that the old world before the war was bitter-sweet, people were allowed to leave their houses and they had free will. The bitter part about the old world was that there was something called crime, we do not have that kind of thing here in Ashton. In 2015 when the government corrupted and the current president stepped down President Kate Fallon took over, She created a society where we are not let out of our houses. She told us that her reasoning for this was to keep murders, kidnappings, robberies, and even car accidents from happening. The only time we are allowed to leave our houses are for school or if you work for the government, everyone else works from home. Mrs. H also said that the world now is just bitter, and that President Fallon's idea of a perfect world does not help us anymore than the war does. I do not know anything other than the inside of my house, school, and the shuttle that takes me to and from, so I could not really understand where Mrs. H was coming from but now that I am older I think I might have an idea. There is a whole world out there that no one in Ashton will ever be able to see because of President Fallon, but I plan to change that. Now that the war has been going on for twenty years President Fallon has decided we need to finish off this war, but her ideas do not turn out very well as you can see from our society. Her plan to stop the war is to send each child to war right when they turn seventeen years of age, no matter the physical state, gender, or even disability. Once you turn sixteen regular school turns into war training, we train for one full year then we are sent to war for one year. Soldiers get changed out every year so we can have a fresh army ready to fight for Ashton. I do not understand the way president Fallon goes about "fixing" things, the society seems to be fine but the people who know different and have been alive since the war started are still having trouble adjusting. My mom tells me stories all the time about the old world and how much better it was than Ashton, even with the crime. Everyone has to suffer because of president Fallon and I am fed up with her ideas. Now that I am in war training I have to get up at 4:25 A.M because I have to be at training by 5:00, training school goes from 5:00 A.M to 7:00 P.M. Training for fourteen hours a day is a bit harsh but I am just glad I get to spend it with my training crew. A training crew is a group of people you do simulations with to train for war, just like a regular group of friends at school. My crew consists of three other people, Blythe Moore, Gage Grant, and Tate Ovard. Our training crew strays from all of the others because we are planning an escape.
