Why Me?

As I start to get ready for bed I hear my phone ring. I don't recognize the number, so I let it go to voice mail. If it's important, they will leave a message. I walk back into my washroom and again, hear my phone; only this time nobody was calling, they sent me a text. I finish washing my teeth and check the text. It is from the mystery number. It simply said "Get out of your house. It isn't safe." I laugh thinking nothing of it, and toss my phone into my bed. Soon after, I crawl in beside it and turn on the radio.

*Next Morning*

My hand reaches to grab my phone to turn off the alarm. After not feeling it, I slowly pry my tired eyes open. I see it had fallen onto the floor during the night. I take hold of the thin, white iPhone. It is 7:00 am. I get out of bed the speed if a zombie. I make my way to the shower, and quickly remove my cloths. The water is warm on the back. I wash my hair, body and face and turn off the water. I wrap a yellow towel round my cold, naked skin. I dry off and put on my black skinny jeans and my superman crop-top. I slip on the white Vans I had gotten for my 17th birthday. I walk over to my dresser and put my hair into a quick braid before I head out of my room.

I wake up my 13 year old brother, Luke, so he isn't late for football practice. After I make sure he has gotten out of bed, I go downstairs to the kitchen to make breakfast. On the countertop, I find a bundle of white roses. There is a card with my name on it. I walk over to the flowers. I open the card and all it says is To: Annie. I shutter at the thought that this may have been from the mystery number. I shake off the feeling and walk back over to the stove. I make four pancakes, two for me and two for Luke. Not long after the food is made, I hear Luke running down the stairs. I hand him his plate, along with a bottle of syrup. After we get down eating, it is off we go to a long day a school.
