You felt yourself swaying back and forth gently, your arms and legs hanging limp. There was something warm and strong holding you and you felt at ease. The last thing you remembered was pain and nothing else. Lots of blood. Whatever-or whoever-was holding you had a steady heartbeat that comforted you and you pressed your cheek into their bare skin.
You stopped swaying when the person carrying you halted. The air was warm and thick and you could smell a faint mixture of herbs. You were laid down gingerly on a soft bed of fabric. With numb limbs, you could barely feel anything.
When you were finally able to open your eyes, you saw your calf and wrist wrapped in bandages. As you regained some feeling, you noticed the ointment on your injuries. Whoever fixed you up had done so expertly. You then heard a voice. It seemed distant, yet so close.
"(Y/n....) are you starting to wake up....?" The voice was hoarse, yet calming, and you heard the care in it. A large hand reached down to brush the hair out of your face. For the first time in a while, you felt safe. That is, until, your savior leaned down and whispered into your ear.
"I'm sorry (y/n)...please...forgive me for being a complete asshole."
Your heart leapt into your chest when you realized you were laying right in front of, vulnerable to, Hidan. He still smelled like blood, too. You let out a tiny shriek and your eyes shot open. "Shh shh," he cooed, realizing he was scaring you,"I won't hurt you. Not this time. Just...relax. You don't wanna make those cuts of yours worse." When you looked him over, you didn't notice a single scratch on him, save for some minute scars. What the hell was this man....
Hidan put his hands under your back and sat you up so you could face him. You could see the genuine look of sympathy and care he had on his face. The feelings he was showing were genuine. "Please uh...that was a shitty move back there....do me a favor and like, don't try and kill me now? Not that it would work..but don't run either. I have some explaining to do," he said. With great care he lifted you, bridal style, again and carried you over to a small bed.
A patch of sunlight hit your face and warmed you. You still felt no threat, even though you were in the arms of a man who had just tried to kill you. He held you for a while and observed your wounds until you squirmed a little. He set you down tenderly and you just stared at him. His sincerity shocked you. His gentleness straight up weirded you out. You had no idea how a man could go from a blood thirsty killer to a sweet caretaker in such a short time.
"Hidan...how long was I out...?" You asked in a timid voice. He sighed and chuckled some,"well uh...three days to be exact. Damn, you can sleep girl. Ya lost a hell a lot of blood." Three days?!? What had happened between now and then?! Your head started spinning as you when through all the options in your head. You were still wearing the clothes you had on before and you didn't feel violated so you relaxed again.
He walked over and sat on the bed at your feet. He rested his hand on your calf and looked at it sorrowfully. "You'll have to forgive me," he said,"I've never been with a woman like this before." He took in a deep breath and looked up at you with pleading eyes. "No one has ever begged for their life like that before. At least not anyone I've ever seen...your eyes...they made me feel so weak, so unworthy. I was willing to risk Jashin's disappointment just to make sure I didn't see the lights die out of those eyes."
"Jashin doesn't need you as a sacrifice. Someone so good, so pure...is of no use to him. No, you...you deserve life." His words were pained and you knew it took at lot for him to say these things. Jashin, who you assumed was his God, seemed so important to him...and to have him put you over that...you felt special.
"(Y/n), what you saw was a Jashinist ritual. It's my religion. My life. Heh...a man who devotes his life to his religion certainly doesn't have any goddamn time to get used to being around women, isn't that right?" He laughed at himself in a disheartening way and you felt sympathy for him. "Listen, I just couldn't kill you okay. What can I say. Maybe I'm just a damn idiot or whatever but..I've never like...yknow..." He trailed off and looked at the ground.
You felt a strange connection between the two of you at that moment, almost like he was your friend...a jackass of a friend, but still. You could trust him. You slid your hand down a little bit to grasp onto his cloak. He was startled by it, but when he saw your hand, so small and fragile compared to his, he smiled with the very corner of his mouth. There was pain in his face and stress had clearly taken its tole on him. He looked disheveled and deathly tired.
"Yeah, I'm a pretty hot mess, huh?" He joked. "Listen, (y/n), I've been awake for hours. You gotta let me catch some z's or I'll get cranky as hell. You're safe here. Kakuzu and I use this cabin for meetings between us and planning, so no one is gonna be comin' in but me for now. He doesn't know you're alive, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there." With a wink, he stood up and curled up on the ground in a few blankets he had laid out with his back to you. "Oh and, there's some clean clothes and some bath water in the next room over if you wanna wash up. Just..be careful with those cuts of yours, don't want you losin a leg, heh," he mumbled, still facing away.
You plopped your head back on the pillow and let out a long sigh. What the hell was going on....? As the sun began to set outside, you closed your eyes and drifted back into a deep sleep.
