As it turned out, the decorative style ran through the entire house. Vic showed me all the rooms that I had access to, and explained to me that any room which was locked was out of bounds. The front door was the only way out of the grounds itself, but I was told that the hallway leading to it would normally be locked, and even then, either Justin, Gabe, Nick or Jack would be guarding the door as they apparently had since Vic first moved in.
After showing me a small portion of the house, Vic took me into a smaller room, dominated by an ornate oak desk. I guessed that this was his office, due to all the envelopes and paper stacked in little piles across the desk and on the floor.
"Take a seat, and then we can get down to business." I sat down in the high backed chair closed to the door, as he went around to the other side of the desk and sat down so that he was facing me.
"So I obviously have a good reason for bringing you here, otherwise I wouldn't have gone to the trouble of getting you specifically. There is a long story behind this, which I will try to keep short for you."So I have to take over from my parents in the next few years, watching over the country I grew up in. Vesani is one of the ancient countries, still abiding by the early laws set by our ancestors. While this can be wonderful, it can also be problematic. In order to take rule and reign, I must first marry. Happily, our ancestors believed that all love was natural, and so I may follow my true desires and marry a man, however I have never found a person whom I may wish to marry." I opened my mouth in horror as to what it seemed like he was about to ask of me.
"I know it sounds bad, but there is more to the story. It is customary, in our family, to travel abroad for University, which is where my mother met yours. They were good friends, and spent all three years together. I had already been born before my mother left for University, she left me just over a month after giving birth to me, because she had to. You were on the way by the end of their time together, and your grandmother sent pictures of you to my mother right up until she passed away. I've always known about you, the boy who should have been my mothers godson. It was my own Grandparents who put a stop to that, they didn't want her to make any promises that she was unable to keep, and watching out for you was one.
"But, I fell in love with everything that your grandmother said about you, and all of the pictures we were sent. After she passed, we lost track of you, and I tried to move on. As I was twenty, all of my attention was going towards finding myself someone who I could marry, but nothing worked. So, I turned all of my efforts back to finding you. It took long enough to find you, but when I found you, it didn't take long to realise that you didn't know that we existed. You were living in that awful apartment, with barely money or possession to speak of, and yet you hadn't even tried to contact us.
"This made things more complicated, and so I moved to America under the pretense of finishing my education, along side my brother, and two closest friends. I couldn't just walk up to you in the street and explain all of this without you freaking and attacking me, but I couldn't pretend to meet you the way most people do and then announce all of this, for the fear of you hating me or killing me. Six months of working towards a solution, and this was honestly the best I could think of. I do hope that you will forgive me."
I took a moment to let it all wash in, and try to calm down over the way he had been so casual about the mention of my mother. She had died giving birth to me, and since my dad had ran off when he found out that she was pregnant, I had been brought up by my Grandmother. I'd been happy enough, we hadn't had much money, since she'd stopped working due to medical issues around my tenth birthday, but we had managed. Both her and my Grandpa, who I never met, had spent their lives saving up, using only what they needed, meaning that I could continue self defence class until I graduated from it aged fifteen. It was only a year later that my Grandmother had passed away herself, leaving me to spend two years in a home before I could live on my own. There was just enough money left to get myself the small apartment I'd lived in for five years, and to keep me going until I found a job waiting tables every evening in one of the diners around the neighbourhood.
About five minutes after he'd finished talking, I opened my eyes and looked at him. He looked sightly worried, and I was mad that he felt like he could just waltz into my life and take me away.
"You realise that you shouldn't have taken me off of the streets like that?" He sighed deeply, clearly aware of it. "For all I know, for all anyone who notices my absence knows, you could be a rapist, or a murderer. You are right, I don't know anything about you. I knew my mum had a friend at collage who moved away straight after they graduated, but that's it.""I'm not going to hurt you Kellin, I promise you. Just give me a month. We have been working towards this, and the few people that would notice your absence have been told that you have quit your job, and will be leaving Michigan soon. As we speak, Mike, Jaime and Tony are on their way to get everything out of your apartment-"
"They what? But I own it, you can't exactly sell it without my permission. How were you planning on getting round that?"
"Elaborate back stories. You are pretty much running from that place, as far as everyone there is concerned. Selling the apartment will come later, and if this doesn't work out, then I promise to set you up anywhere you like."
"And if I want to go back?" I watched him grimace, uncomfortable.
"You can't go back straight away. Later, if you chose to, but not straight away. And you will get a choice, I won't force you into any commitments that you don't want to make, just give me a chance. A month is all that I ask."He was insane, and yet I found myself considering it. The house was nice enough, the month might give me a chance to figure out what I actually wanted to do with my life. I knew that there was no way I would go back to this country of his with him though. I bately knew the guy, though if what he said was true, then I would have grown up with him in another life. However, a part of me was still trying to find my escape. I had nowhere to o though, and no money that I could have without him finding me again.
I was trapped, and I knew it.
"Okay. You have one month, and that is it."
