Extremely short chapter.. :p

“Ex-excuse me-e sir..” I mumbled inaudibly.

“Pardon Miss?” The police officer said with a loud, yet kind voice.

I swallowed, took a deep breath, and repeated myself, louder this time.

“What’s your name, and what can I do for you Missy?”

I stated my name, and then.. I was at a loss for words. I blurted out my entire story. Beginning to end;  everything.  The police officer looked at me with an interested, yet still reassuring expression on his face and listened contently. It was good to have somebody finally listen to me for once. When I’d finished, he took my hand with both of his, and said…

“You’ve been through a lot Amber, and we’re going to help you. Nobody deserves all this, especially not a young girl. These next few weeks are going to be tough, but we need your help, to get you to a new home, in a new place, with a new family.”

These words shocked and surprised me. I had so many emotions at that point.. I felt scared, worried, anxious.. but mostly relieved. A few short weeks until I leave this hell-hole, and I’m free from the torment of my so-called “family”.

I nodded, as a tear ran down my face. I smiled, looked up at the ceiling, then closed my eyes. I WAS NEARLY FREE!

Or so I thought.
