Ellington's POV:
We only had a few moments. I heard the 5 minute call to showtime as I made my way down the hall backstage.
I picked up my pace a bit and rounded the corner, almost running into Ross.
"Hey, man, where are you going?" A confused expression crossed his face. "Stage is that way," he pointed past me.
I backed away from him in the opposite direction. "Yeah. I'll be there in a minute," I replied panickedly.
He still looked confused but answered with an, "Alright." He gave me one final look before adding, "and get Rydel, too. I can't find her."
"Will do," I called but I was already almost out of earshot.
I rounded the last corner and made it to the first door on the left. I looked left and right to be sure nobody was around. All clear.
I turned the doorknob and closed the door quickly behind me after I entered. It was pitch black but I didn't need to see anything.
A soft touch on my shoulder and the familiar purfume scent and I knew we were alone.
"Hi," I whispered, bringing my hands to her waist and pulling her to me. "I missed you." I took two steps backwards, leading her with me, and ran into a wall. I leaned up against it as she wrapped her hands around the back of my neck and took a step even closer. "I missed you too."
It was silent in the room apart from our soft breathing. I felt like I could hear the seconds tick by.
She read my mind. "We don't have much time."
I barely let her finish the sentence before bringing my lips to hers. She tasted sweet-I immediately knew it was her favorite lipgloss. The one that she knows I love on her.
Our kisses got quicker, harder as we both subconsciously realized how long it's been since we'd had time alone.
We don't get moments like this very often since we started dating 3 months ago. It's tough, but we've managed to keep it a secret from absolutely everybody. We have it down to a science now-figuring out when and where we can make time without any suspicion and making those moments count.
She ended the kiss, pulling away when I tried for more. But I knew she was just teasing me.
We both smiled as she traced a finger down my jawline and she let me kiss her again.
I slipped one arm around her waist and switched positions, pushing her against the wall.
She rested a hand gently on my chest and slowly started unbottoning my shirt.
A smile crept onto my face. "We can't right now, babe," I said in between kisses, but continued kissing her.
"Hm," she replied, "you could've fooled me."
I chuckled and kissed her one final time, realizing I was probably giving her mixed signals about how far we'd go right now.
"Sorry," I tilted my head and gave her a flirty smile.
Just then the 2-minute call until showtime was announced over the loudspeakers. I sighed and looked at Rydel.
Even standing here in the dark, I could still make out her beautiful features. Her sad eyes became more and more apparent with every second that passed. I knew it broke her heart that things had to be this way-that we could only see each other for minutes at a time, only a few days a week at most.
She looked at me like she's looked at me for the past 3 months, silently asking, Why does it have to be this way?
I took a step closer to her and answered the unspoken question, "Rydel, you know that I hate this too, but it's for the best."
She nodded. "I know, I know. You're right." She broke eye contact with me and looked at the floor. "It would be a disaster if we told anyone."
I let a moment of silence pass. "If it makes you feel any better, I think we've been doing a damn good job so far." I smiled down at her and I watched as one reflected on her face as well.
She nodded and bit her lip. "Yeah, we have."
I shook my head and chuckled. She's so irresistible to me. "Come here," I whispered, bringing a finger to her chin and kissing her again on the lips.
I kissed her slowly and passionately, trying to communicate to her exactly what I'm thinking and feeling, knowing I wouldn't get the chance to tell her for at least a couple of days.
We reluctantly pulled away after a few moments and she held me at an arms length away. "Okay, now I really don't want to go," she smirked.
I smiled and brought our entwined fingers to my lips, kissing the top of her hand.
"Me neither," I pulled her to me and wrapped my arms around her shoulders.
She sighed deeply and leaned her head on my chest, relaxing into me.
She was the first one to break the hug, sliding her hands down my arms and gently pushing out of my embrace.
"Alright, we need to go," she brushed a few strands of hair out of her eyes and reached for the door.
"Wait," I grabbed her wrist and she turned to look at me. "I love you."
Her expression softened. She reached a hand up to my face and traced a finger along my jawline. "I love you too, Ellington."
I squeezed her hand one final time then let her fingers slip through mine as she exited the room quietly.
I sighed deeply, already wondering when I'd be able to hold her again.
I smoothed down my hair and wiped her lipgloss off my lips, counting in my head to ten.
I was used to this by now-this was our routine that we followed every time. We couldn't look suspicious of anything, especially to her brothers. We always were sure to be extremely careful.
I reached 10 then counted a couple more just to be sure. I took a deep breath and slowly opened the door, only to find that there was nobody around anyway.
I made my way to the stage at an even pace, knowing I'd make it just in time and that we'd have no problems. At least this time.
