Chapter 1: A New Adventure Begins

Harry stumbled through the barrier separating Platform 9 and 3\/4 from the Muggle world. Briefly noticing the redhead family he had followed to the platform, he hurriedly rushed towards the scarlet train with steam pouring out of the funnel. He quickly boarded and found an empty compartment, keeping his head down so no one would notice his scar. After securing his luggage, Harry sat down on the bench closest to the end of the train. Remaining in silence, Harry began pondering how this new school would treat him.

Once a few minutes had passed, Harry heard a fit of grunting from outside his compartment along with an annoyed Irish voice. As he peered out of the compartment, he noticed a sandy haired boy trying to pull his trunks through the sea of students in front of him. By time said boy had reached Harry's compartment, he noticed the apparent emptiness of the area and rushed in. He shoved his things up on the luggage rack and plopped down on the bench opposite of Harry. As he surveyed the compartment, he jumped, noticing Harry sitting underneath the other seat for the first time.

"Oh, I'm sorry mate didn't see ye there," the Irish boy apologized.

"It's ok," Harry replied timidly, "I don't mind."

"Why are ye under there? I hope I didn't scare ye already," the other chuckled slightly.

"No, I'm just rather shy and not used to all the attention people are giving me," Harry answered.

A rush of caring and compassion overcame the sandy haired youth as he observed Harry. While he too found it amazing that THE Harry Potter was in front of him, carrying a conversation, he could understand the boy's shyness. He patted the spot next to him in an inviting fashion.

"Well, why don't ye come join me?" he questioned, "We got a long trip to get to know each other,"

Harry smiled and popped out from underneath the seat, taking his spot.

"Thanks...," Harry started, forgetting he didn't know the boy's name.

"Seamus," the other replied, "Seamus Finnigan,"

"Thanks Seamus. No one's been this nice to me yet," Harry said as he shuffled a bit closer to Seamus.

"Hey, don't stress yourself," Seamus smiled. "I'm sure plenty of people will want to be your friend, I should be the one worrying! I'm an Irishman in a sea of Englishmen,"

Harry managed a small giggle from that, and began a conversation with Seamus about the Wizarding world. Eventually, the two had a relatively constant talk, save for a few interruptions from a bushy-haired girl about a missing toad. About an hour from their destination, Harry had drifted off to sleep, and his head was resting on Seamus' shoulder. Seamus, not minding at all, eventually put his arm around Harry and rested his head on Harry's. While some might have called the behavior strange, Seamus found it perfectly fine and something that Harry might need in his troubled life. Harry had woken up at one point when Seamus was sleeping, and smiled. He had thought making his first friend would be rather hard, but on his first day a beautiful friendship was blossoming.
