Why Me?

"Hey!" I call out to my friend Ridley. She looks over her shoulder to see who was yelling at her. I finally catch up to her. "Hey Rid!"

"Hi." She mumbles, which is unusual for her. I notice her grip tighten around her bag as she looked over her shoulder again.

"What's up?" I ask, slightly confused from her odd behavior.

"D-did you get a call last night?" She stuttered. Something she only did when she was nervous or scared.

I thought back to the events of last night, remembering the call and text. "Yeah, did you get a new number?"

"No... I was hoping you did. What about white roses this morning?" She slowly spoke. I nodded.

"What's your first class today?" I asked quickly, want to get off of the frightening subject.

"Um..." She opened up her bag, rummaging around for her schedule. "History." Her phone beeped. Ridley checked the message and I saw panic in her eyes. "I- I gotta go. Bye." Than she briskly walked off.

Strange, I wonder what the message said, or even more so, who it was from. I shrugged it off and walked to my first class, science, only to be stopped when I heard heavy footsteps behind me. Yes it is a school, the hallways are alway filled. But this time I was the only person in the hallway. I turned sharply, expecting to find my follower, instead I see emptiness. I continue to walk, feeling as though I was being watched the whole time. When I entered the classroom the icy feeling faded into just a memory.

The class mainly consisted of Mr. Elis yelling at Jackson to stop 'fooling around and focus'. Jackson was a good friend of mine, always wanting to cheer people up. He was sort of the class clown. I met with Jackson after class.

"Hey Jax! Did you get a new cell phone number?"

He shook he head "No, why?"

"No reason, someone called me last night from an unknown number. Then I got a weird text. I think someone's playing a joke on me."

"Hmm... I don't have a clue. Sorry, tell me when you find out who it was."

"Okay." I called behind me as I walked to my next class.
