I slammed my head against the table and whimpered while hear Jean crunch away at the chips in front of me. The sounds of others walking around the classroom and the sound of paint being smothered and the scent of paint made me growl. I hated being in crowds.

“You picked a fight with Clare. Well aren’t you smart?” I glared at Jean and she smiled lifting another ‘chip she crunched down on it and I sighed lying my head on my arms.

“Why does the teacher let you do that?” Jean stared at me confused.

“Do what?” She threw another chip in her mouth. I felt my bottom eye lid begin to twitch with annoyance.

“EAT!” The classroom went silent and I looked around as the teacher stared at me, the others did the same half of me was grateful for the silence the other half was beginning to be irritated by the long stares. The teacher stood and walked over. He straightened his dress coat, tugged at his tie and dusted his pants before walking over to our desk. I groaned a dry laugh erupting in my head. I am totally going to be in shit.

…lunchtime…

Fortunately for me shit means a lunch worth or lonely detention which didn’t bother me. At least it was quiet.

“So why don’t you tell me about yourself miss… Pearl.” His voice was at the same depth as it was before and although he was across the room it felt like his threatening tone was seething from behind me. O….kay… so detention just got a lot worse for me. Fear told me not to look at his face but instead to keep scribbling on the page.

“Uh…. There’s not much to tell. I moved here not too long ago with my family.” I felt as though not answering was just going to make it worse.

“I see. May I tell you something?” I accidently looked up at him and felt the rims of my eyes go wide he was standing in front of me glaring straight at me. WHA! WHA! WHAT THE?!! I didn’t even hear him cross the room!!

“Jean is a precious student of mine. Not only is she talented it English and maths but she’s a real artist. She thinks outside the box and never loses a battle. When she first joined this high school I thought it was odd for a girl that talented to be in a school like this but do you know what she told me?” I shook my head when his hand slammed the table and gulped. His hair was black with green tips and he slicked it back. He smelled of cigarettes and grass and it unsettled me.

“She told me that she needed to go to a public school just in case her best friends ever moved here.” My body relaxed instantly and I watched him walk away. He got to the door and opened it gesturing for me to leave.

“Now how do you think she’d feel if the friend that she’s been waiting for gets expelled for disturbing a class?” I chuckled with no humour and stood taking my book with me.

“She wouldn’t happy I guess.” The teacher nodded to me. I was about to pass him when he grabbed my shoulder.

“My name is Mr. Andrews and good luck on Thursday. You’ll need it.” My eyes widened with confusion when he closed the door in my face and I turned looking into the courtyard I saw people eyeing me before they would whispered something to each other. I made a shiver run up my spine. I think I just made a Huge mistake.
