"Everly, come on!" Eco shouted outside my bedroom door.
"No! You have to wait now for telling me last minute." I shouted back while packing my bag.
"It wasn't last minute. It was just like an hour."
"Don't be a smart butt right now!" I rushed to my closet to my suitcase then to my wardrobe to the suitcase, bathroom to the suitcase. I was practically running all over my room in hopes I didn't forget to pack anything important.
In case you were wondering why I was running all over the place while shouting at my closed door which behind it stood my best friend, then I'll tell you. It's quite simple though.
It just so happened that my time at home was over because in an hour or so I have to be boarded on a plane headed to New York because the competition was about to begin. Now here comes the part that led me into such a stressed-out state. Eco just mentioned this, not-so-important-info, note sarcasm, to me a few seconds ago. It also does not help that my house is like thirty minutes away from the nearest airport. I didn't even get to celebrate that I was going to New York. The city that never sleeps. What a bummer.
Once I had everything packed, while hoping in the back of my mind that I didn't forget to pack anything, I opened my door to find an anxious Eco standing before me, biting her thumbnail in stress.
"Finally! What took you so long, " Eco exasperated.
"Hey! Don't get all huffy and puffy on me missy. I'm not the one that forgot about a very important information that needed to be passed down," I stated.
"Fine. Whatever. Let's just go before you're late on meeting your flight." With that, she stomped her way down the stairs and out the front door of my house.
Before leaving my room, I turned around and took one last glance at it because who knows when I'm going to see it again. Then again, it might not be that long because I for sure am not going to stay long in the competition.
I closed the door of my bedroom, headed downstairs, and out the door to meet up with Eco who was already seated in the driver's chair, the car on with music cranking out of the speakers.
I slipped into the passenger seat after I put my two suitcases, two backpacks, and my purse in the trunk.
The ride to the airport was fairly quiet considering I was sitting beside a chatterbox.
I needed to ask Eco something but I worried if I did she would act out. The question was roaming my head ever since my audition, however, I was afraid to ask her. I had to ask her soon or else my head felt like it might explode with all the curiosity as to why.
"Eco?" I broke the silence that floated in the air beside the radio.
"Yea." She turned off the radio to give me her full attention.
"Um, how do I say this," I mutter o myself. "You know how you said that one of your rules for the dare was to record every single movement I made once I started the competition?"
"Yea," she answered without giving much thought behind my questioning. "Oh, and Everly? I'm so sorry I did that but I know how much you love the show and I don't know, I guess I just wanted you to do something daring in your life for once. Step out of your comfort zone. I know we go to parties and go all crazy in them. Ok, maybe that's just me. But you're seeing my point right. You might be going to the parties, but you don't do anything daring in them like take a sip of alcohol or flirt and have a hot make-out session with a hot guy."
Before Eco could get any deeper into her explanation, I cut her off. You see what I'm telling you? She's a chatterbox alright. She didn't even answer my question. However, her explanation behind the dare was acceptable.
"No, wait, Eco. What I'm trying to say here is that you haven't recorded anything so far. Even so, I'm thankful for the explanation behind what you did, but that still doesn't make it acceptable."
"I did record you." Eco finally answered my oh-so-desperate question.
"What? No, you didn't."
"Yes, I did."
"No, you didn't."
"Yes, I did."
"No."
"Yes."
"What the heck Eco? No. You. Did. Not."
"Ever. Listen to me. Yes, the fudging cow, I did. I had it pinned to my hat. It's tiny and unnoticeable."
"Well, why didn't you just start from there? That would have saved us some of the arguing."
"Look, here we are." She changed the subject quickly. But however, she wasn't lying. We did arrive.
"I'm going to miss you," Eco told me sadly.
"I'm going to miss you too," I said back, feeling tears well up in my eyes ready for a flood to occur any moment now.
"Now don't give me those eyes, Ev. You know how I'll get." Seeing her eyes doing the same as my own. "Don't worry. The time will pass by without you consciously knowing. And before you know it, you'll be hoping to get rid of me again." We both laugh at that.
"I hope you're right. Bye Eco. Tell bye to aunt Christy for me please and tell her I'll call as soon as I can. And please. Please watch over her with your life. Don't let her out of your eyesight. More specifically, don't allow her in or even near the kitchen. Ever."
"Ok. Got it. Don't need to sound so dark about it."
Eco parked in the drop off section. We both got out of the car as we took out my luggage from the trunk.
Once I was all prepped and ready to go with both backpacks on my back, one on top of the other, and my suitcases in hand, along with my purse swung over my shoulder, Eco and I said our farewells that consisted of last minute jokes, overflowing tears, and big bear hugs, I departed ways with Eco as she climbed back into her car with a stained teared face.
Bye, bye my nice peaceful life. And here I come...fame?
