Gwen glanced around the room. The sound of snores and soft breathing filled the room, along with the quiet rustleing of her covers. She was the only one awake. This happened every morning, she was always the first to wake, and just sat there in awkward silence, not wanting to disturb the peacefulness. Today was different, though. It was her birthday and Gwen was not going to just sit here in the girls' dormitory in silence, she was going to do something. 'I'm fourteen now. I'm in my fourth year' she thought. Gwen was let into fourth year because of her ability to learn quickly and because she was ahead of a lot of other kids her age.
She sneezed, and winced, not wanting to wake any of the other girls up. Gwen carefully lifted her covers off, and stepped down onto the cold stone floor. She quickly slipped on her slippers and school robes, and went to the door that leads to the staircase to the common room. She heard Macy roll over in her sleep and stood still, then quietly opened the door and went into the common room.
She sat down on the bench next the the window, her favorite place. There was only space for one person on the bench, so no one could invade her space, she hated being invaded, being alone was nice. She opened at textbook that was sitting on the table next to her. Its was a Care of Magical Creatures book. Gwen looked at the inside cover, the book was Olivia Jamington's. Ahdri quickly put the book down and picked up another, an Herbology textbook this time. Also Olivia's. Gwen put the herbology book back on the pile that must've been Olivia's books and homework. It wasn't really home-work was it? It was more like bed-work, room-work. This place wasn't home. Home was with her grandfather in Hudson, Maine. But she couldn't ever return there. Her grandmother was dead, and her grandmother was the only person that excepted who Gwen was. Now she was dead, the only person in her family.
Gwen had never known her mom, but she knew her dad. Her dad had left when she was seven, off with some woman who smelled like beer, cigarettes, weed, and other horrible things, my dad had half of those smells. Anyway, I don't miss him he was a jerk, never paying attention to me, and hated me because of what I could do and who I liked. He murdered her, the girl she liked, a few months after he left. Left a note, too, on the body. She felt her back pocket. It was there. Jamie's signature, his, a horrid note. Why Gwen kept it, she doesn't know.
After he left and she found Olivia's body, she left to find my grandparents to live with them. Hopefully they'd accept who she was, right? Well, k'unši did. She died naturally six months ago. Gwen came to Hogwarts a month after k'unši died, my grandfather just didn't understand her, he was catholic, so that didn't help. K'unši was one of the only people in the family who was not a homophobe, and Gwen had no idea who her mother was, what her religion was, viewpoint, etc. Gwen had been told that her mother died when she was only a few months old, but for some reason, she had this...feeling like her mom was still out there.
