It was a harsh and chilly night, nothing out of the ordinary for late November in Spinner’s End. Two small children, a boy and a girl, with identical piercing brown eyes and sleek, wavy, chestnut hair sit cowering in the corner of a dimly lit kitchen, holding hands, as their parents scream obscenities in each others’ faces overhead. Neither child is crying, but both look deeply sad, their eyes yearning for the screaming to stop. In the flash of an eye a bubble appears around the twins and then it’s gone, and all that remains is an eerie silence. The children look up to see their parents still very much in each others’ faces, screaming and cursing but not a sound can be heard. Neither child knew which had caused the sound proof bubble to occur, or how, but both were comforted by the idea that things were going to be that little bit easier to deal with from now on, so long as they had each other.
Years passed, and the pair explored their magical abilities further, making stones float, turning sprouts into rum balls and once they made the boy's toy soldiers march across the lawn in battle formation, but most importantly they learned that they were strongest when they were together. The pair was always careful to keep their abilities a secret from their parents, for although their father was himself a wizard, it was not often spoken of in their house because it was the main cause for arguments. Their mother, a non-magical human or 'muggle', resented their father for not using his abilities to bring them wealth and fame. But May 22nd was fast approaching and soon the twins would be 11 and there would be no denying their abilities after that. They would receive their Hogwarts invitations and their mother would know. And that was an argument no bubble could protect them from.
