It was still raining even in the town, Kayleigh looked from her bedroom window out on the street below her. The infected had spread here too, she could seem them all just watching her, trying to claw their way over the wooden gate that separated her house from the street. She sighed and checked her mobile...no service. Her parents Anthony and Maria had gone to work, they worked out of town and it just so happened that tonight they were at a conference up in Scotland...Kayleigh could only pray for their safety.
Kayleigh collapsed onto her white bed covers and began to scratch her god behind its ear. She checked her mobile phone again in hopes that a message was waiting from either Joe or her parents but hadn’t been received due to bad reception. But alas there were no messages, she tossed the phone up into the air and watched as it hit the soft surface. The weather didn't make her mood any better, if anything it made her feel worse...the rain has that kind of effect.
Kayleigh was short hence why her nickname to her friends was Shorty. She had long brown hair and was pretty happy...before all this happened, now that happiness has been replaced with sadness and worry for both her friends and her parents safety. Sam had known Kayleigh the longest out of the group and it brought great happiness to see both her and Joe so happy together...but that was a couple of days ago, when the biggest worry in their minds was if they would pass exams...not if they could survive a zombie apocalypse.
Kayleigh couldn't stand sitting in silence any more so she flicked on the television, to find all of the channels and usual television programmes had been replaced with the same message given out by the female reporter. Thoughts ran through her mind like a train on tracks. Were her parents okay? Were her friends okay? Was Joe okay? How did this all even start?
Kayleigh looked down onto the street again...but something caught her eye. From round the corner she saw a group of hooded men all walking in unison together, they were carrying the corpse of the infected on a large stick, manned by two people. The hooded man at the front took out a megaphone and began to alert the neighbours. “I call you all out of your homes, let these beats feast upon your tortured souls, let these beasts drain away the plague from this tainted land!”
Kayleigh remained hidden behind the blinds in her room, but noticed that one of the hooded men looked directly at her. This freaked her out slightly as she sunk straight to the floor in hiding, and then...silence. But the silence was interrupted by loud bangs on Kayleigh's front door which made her jump, but she wasn't sure if she had locked those beasts outside or not...she had to check.
Back at Clifftop High James continued to throw around his hammer in hopes that his boredom would be lifted. Joe paced back and forth mumbling to himself “They should be back by now dammit, what's taking them so long?” Sam had been through the cupboards and found the ingredients needed for a cup of tea, he was sat on the work surface sipping is cares and worries away. Erin was sat just rolling the new black handled blade in her hands.
Erin stood up and had a little stretch. “I hope those guys are ok-” Joe had cut in “They are okay, you hear me? They are okay!”Sam glanced up from his tea to look at the two and then out of the window at the horde, viciously ripping apart a small group of students that had strayed outside. But then something really did catch his eye, one of the children had a swipe card to enter the building and in a desperate attempt for safety he hit the sensor an attempted to pull himself through the door. He didn't make it and was pulled back by his limbs...but the door wasn't closing...the horde had entered the building.
“I don't mean to alarm you guys, but it looks like we might have a hard time regrouping with those guys after all!” James stopped throwing his hammer and glanced at Sam, all he said was “It's clobbering time!” Joe grabbed a pipe that a caretaker had left from replacing one of the gas pipes to an oven. “Let's take these fuckheads down!” The four of them walked out pretty calmly now that they had some form of weapon.
