The fact that I am the strongest person in my age group scares a lot of people. I am a girl, so that surprises some people. But there is a reason for why I am so strong. I am a buffalo shifter. A Shifter is a person that can turn into an animal. But the choice of the animal isn't made by the person. You are born with it.

Today was an exciting day. My blonde haired brown eyed mentor, Marcus, was taking me to the beach today. I have only been beach twice before, and I was young so I can't remember it that much. I tried to hide my excitement but Marcus saw it anyway and grinned.

"You seem excited," he observed.

I nodded. "You don't take me to the beach much." Yes, I live with my mentor. Not everyone did but my mother left me with him when I was young. I didn't know why she did and Marcus never told me.

"That's because your training is important," Marcus argued. "You're the-"

"Last royal Shifter yes, I know," I interrupted. "You only told me a thousand times."

"That's because it's important. You can't just ignore your heritage," he insisted.

"I know it is," I agreed, "but you tell me almost every single day."

"Let's not argue now," Marcus said. "We're almost to the beach."

We were almost through the forest that surrounded the island we were on. I could already see the blue waters of the ocean. I adjusted the bag I had on my back and continued to follow Marcus. We each had a bag of stuff we wanted to take to the beach.

I wasn't wearing any shoes so when I walked onto the sand, I felt the warmth of the sand. I liked the feeling of the sand between my toes. It felt nice compared to the coolness of the dirt or the hard, wooden floor of our cabin. The feeling of the sand made me want to sink down into it and lay in it but I knew I couldn't.

I followed Marcus to a spot on the beech halfway to the ocean where there was no people around. We set our stuff down and spread out the blue quilt we brought with us. We moved our bags onto the quilt and got our plastic frisbee we I brought. Walking a few feet away from the quilt, we threw the frisbee back and forth.

After throwing the frisbee for awhile, we went back to the quilt for lunch. I had helped Marcus make sandwiches so we pulled those out to eat. Besides the sandwiches, we packed apples, strawberries, bottles of water, and some cookies. It was my idea to pack the cookies. Marcus let me after a small argument.

After we ate, I took off my clothes to reveal a silver one piece swimsuit. Marcus took off his white shirt to reveal a six pack. He was wearing blue swim shorts and black river shoes. We walked to the edge of the sand, the cool blue water lapping at our toes. Marcus was the first to walk further into the waters. I followed shortly after, gasping as the cold water reached my waist. Marcus didn't seem to have any body temperature for he waded further into the water until he disappeared from sight.

I slowly walked into the water to the spot Marcus disappeared. I was trending water as I looked around, trying to find him. I couldn't see him and was starting to panic. Taking in a breath of air, I ducked my head underwater to try to find him. All I could see was blue, no trace of his tan skin or light brown fur of his bear form.

I went above water when I started to loose my breath. I gasped for air and looked around. Suddenly I saw a light brown head poke out of the water and start to swim towards me. I started to back off until I saw it was Marcus. He got closer and I saw that he had a trout in his jaws.

"You scared me!" I exclaimed. "I thought you left me."

Marcus shifted back into his human form, a light brown light engulfing him as he did so. When he was human again, he still held the fish in his mouth. He spit the fish out into his hands before responding.

"I was just fishing," he explained.

I sighed. "You could have told me that."

"Sorry about that. Now can you get me my extra pair of swim shorts from my bag please?" He asked.

I nodded and swam back to the shore. I then walked over to Marcus's bag and grabbed a pair of light green shorts from the top. I then went back into the water and swam over to him. I gave him the shorts and he ducked underwater to put them on, giving me the fish to hold while he did so.

After he put on his shorts, I wrapped the fish in a spare towel we brought and went back to swim in the ocean. Marcus gave me a water fighting training lesson before we just swam around and body surfed on the waves. I was a quick learner so that helped me with my small training lesson.

We packed up our stuff and started walking back to the cabin when the sun started to set. Our cabin was in the middle of the thickest part of the forest on the island. Marcus had this idea that it was safer for me to live here than in the town. But I didn't mind much, we were in the middle of a clearing and I had plenty of space to turn into my buffalo form and roam around.

We got back to the house with just enough light to walk across the clearing into the cabin. The wooden cabin was two stories tall and had a porch out front. Chris's motorcycle was parked a few feet from the stairs that led up to the cabin. We walked up the stairs and into the cabin.

I flipped on the light switch close to the door, causing light to flood into the cabin. The door was a few feet from the left wall and opened to the left. In front of us was the living room. The back of the light brown couch was facing the door and the tv was on a dark, wooden shelf on the wall in front of the couch. We turned right and up a small step to face a rectangular, wooden table with wooden chairs around it that could seat six people. Walking past that, we entered a hallway between the kitchen and the table room.

Turning right again, the small hallway led to a staircase. In front of the staircase on the right side was a door that lead to a small bathroom. We climbed the stairs to a small platform. Here the stairs split to go two separate ways. The staircase to the left led to a door that opened up to Marcus's room. My room was up the staircase to the right.

I walked into my room and started to unpack my stuff. My bed was on the wall in front of the wall and the nightstand was to the right. The room angled upwards from the back to the front and the room was small. My closet was on the left wall and I had a mirror on the wall my door was on to the right.

After I unpacked, I went downstairs and smelled fish. I sat on the couch and turned on the tv. I turned the channel to SINN. It stood for Shifters Island News Network. This was the only channel we got from the island but I didn't mind, I liked the news. Sometimes the news anchor messed up or got hit by something and I found it funny.

I watched the news for awhile before Marcus started to set the table. I turned the tv off and went to help him. Together we set the table and I helped make a salad sense he was the one that cooked the meal. The fish smelled delicious and I couldn't wait to eat it.

After dinner, we got ready for bed before sitting on the couch and watching the news. Nothing exciting was going on on the island except for the fair coming up in two days. We always had a fair in the fall before Thanksgiving. It had games, rides, and confession stands. This year it was said to be the biggest one yet and I couldn't wait to go to it.

We went to bed late that night, around 11:00. The beech was fun and I enjoyed it. It definitely wasn't going my last visit to the beech. I plan on going there again sometime. Especially to see the sunset. The way the sun reflects on the water made you feel calm and at peace. I fell asleep with the memory of the sunset on the ocean in my head.
