C4: Love "Triangle"

So I know that Zyana likes Jayda. And I know that I like Zyana, and Jayda and Mary are in love, and Olwen likes Skylar. I think Skylar might like Zyana, but I'm not sure. I barely even know anyone in this weird little town.

I glance at my sister's door. It's 1pm and she's still not awake. Ugh. I go up to the door, opening it.

"It's afternoon. Get up," I say. She squeezes her shut eyes and rolls over in bed. "I mean it, you're being kind of pathetic. Are you ever gonna eat lunch or breakfast?" I ask. She doesn't respond. She's basically anorexic; she doesn't like to eat food. Most of the reason why she gets up so late is so that she only has to eat once a day. "Emma, I mean it." She rolls her eyes, gets up, and walks right past me to her phone, which she then grabs and walks slowly away with, checking Instagram. I glance back at the door to my room. It's wide open. I walk over, close it, and lock it. Sometimes if I don't, Emma or Noah (my brother) will try to get in for some reason.

"Glad to see you're not dead," my mom's voice echoes through the house as Emma walks upstairs. She pouts over to the counter and grabs a bag of carrots and a slice of pizza. "What? We didn't even fight last night."

"That's a first," Noah grumbles, moving on to his third large bowl of cereal. He's also still in his pajamas.

"Shut it," my mom snaps at him. He shrugs, sneering a bit. I finished my breakfast hours ago at 8am. Today is technically the first day of summer break. It's June. Can they go one bloody day without having some huge blow-out?

"I hear you and Sara broke up," Emma says sassily. "She just walked out on you."

"How did she even get in to the house? I told you no girlfriends in the house after 9pm. That's a solid rule, Noah," mom nags.

"Guys, it's summer vacation. Could you guys please just chill??" I ask. Noah shrugs, still sneering.

"She's the one that went through all of the trouble to find the key under the cat statue," he teases. "Not my fault my girlfriend loved me so much that she broke into my house."

"Emphasis on 'loved'," Emma mumbles.

"Shut it," he snaps. She rolls her eyes. God, they are so nasty. I start downstairs and step into my bedroom.

Trying to clear my mind, I climb back up onto my loft bed and start trying to draw out the love "triangle".

So Sky with an arrow to Zyana with a question mark over it, Zyana's arrow to Jayda, Jayda's arrow to Mary... I throw it down. It's too complicated. It'll all change in a day, anyways. God, I had a chance with someone, with being happy. I've gotten rejected at least a billion times by now. I'm so mad that Zyana likes Jayda, of all people. She's such a jerk. How could someone as perfect as Zyana like someone as awful as Jayda??

Hey, my phone says from a text from Zyana after I pick it up.

Hey, I reply.

I have some weird and kinda good news

What

Jayda and Mary broke up

What???

Yeah ikr it's crazy idk why yet but I think and hope it's bcs Jay realized how controlling Mary was being

Woah

That's crazy, I add on. Shit. No. This is awful. Why r u telling me? I mean, I care, but I barely know them

Do u know why jay might like u

Uh... I thought she hated me

Nope. Apparently she said during the breakup that she thought you were way better than Mary. Or maybe she said even u, idk

That's weird I thought she hated me

Yeah same

Srry gtg, she texts.

Bye

Bai

Shit. What just happened? Jay likes me? What is this? Ugh, I can't stand Jayda. How could I live with it if she was always sticking to me like glue???

"Hey," Noah says, peeking into my room from around the corner.

"Could you do me a favor and shut the door? Thanks," I say, turning away from him on my bed.

"Woah there, taking after your sister," Noah says.

"I'm not like Emma," I reply. "We're different in every way."

"Not every way," he replies. "You're female, and you have the same last name," he says.

"I'm not female," I snap.

"Woah there, honey buckets. You kinda are. Look up the definition of female," he tells me.

"I know it, Noah. Of or denoting the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs, distinguished biologically by the production of ova that can be fertilized by male gametes."

"Good for you. Now can you bear offspring?" He doesn't even wait for my reply. "Yes. You're female, Brae. Except it or not, but it won't change the fact."

"I don't feel like I am," I say. "I'm transgender to male."

"Genders are all about sexual organs. You can't just have female sexual organs and then want male sexual organs. Why? It doesn't matter, it's all about whether you give sperm or the egg. Just chill. It's not a real thing, except for in crazy places like Seattle or something," he sneers, walking out of the door.

Just about organs. Just about what part of the baby you give.

Not to me. Not to society.
