Chapter 4- No turning back now

The stairwell seemed to go on forever, just adding more and more stairs as they went up. Toby's nose began to piss with blood again but this was the least of his concern, it left a nice blood mark on his shirt, and also dripped down onto the stairs. Cheddar was first to reach the Science lab and kicked the door open, and was ready to slam it as soon as everyone had gotten inside. Erin and Katie run straight through the door and held themselves upright on one of the many wooden desks dotted around. Toby was next through the door and was immediately looking for something to patch his bloody nose up with, he grabbed some disposable towels and mopped up the crimson mess from his face. James, Callum and Joe were next through the door, they sat Sam down on one of the desks to let his knee recover from the impact...but where was Joe?

Sam got up and tried to walk on his knee after realising Joe wasn't there, he fell to the ground with a pain filled cry. James went back to investigate, he peeked over the railing to see Joe on the stairwell below fending them off with his bag that he continued to swing at the infected. James hurried down to him “What the hell are you doing? Get upstairs now!” He pulled the ginger haired boy back up the stairs and launched him into the Science lab, he fell backwards and sat down for a second in an attempt to catch his breath. Cheddar slammed the door and locked it instantly. James stood in front of Joe and kicked him in the groin “Are you kidding me? Why would you even do that?” Joe grabbed his groin in an attempt to soothe the pain “I'm sorry okay, they were getting a bit close so I though I-” James cut in “You thought you could get yourself killed? From now on nobody makes a ballsy move like that again, understood?” Everyone agreed.

Callum looked around the Science lab for a weapon and found a scalpel and some acids, he then kept the acids to throw in the face of the infected and kept the scalpel to stab them with. Katie found a diorama of a human body,it was lightweight but she figured it could be used to knock the infected back. Everyone now had a weapon of some sort n case the infected broke through the door. Erin spoke up “So what's the plan from here, we can just about see the car park but how do we get to it from up here?” Cheddar looked from the window and saw that there was another building not to far from the window, it could be dropped onto...that may be their only hope. “You could always drop from this window and onto the roof below?” Erin shook her head “There is no way I am jumping from a window, I can't do that!” Sam got up, his knee had recovered slightly now, he propped himself on a desk. Callum interjected “Well, do you have a better plan from the highest point of the school?” Silence fell amongst them, none of them wanted to jump..but did they really have any other choice?

Back in town, Kayleigh had ventured downstairs and managed to lock the front door of her house, the banging and groans still continued though the door, Kayleigh could hear them very clearly. Then she heard gunfire from outside, the groaning was getting further away, whatever was out there shooting, the zombies were attracted to it. Kayleigh collapsed to the floor with her back against the door and then she heard rapid thumping on her door, she looked through the peep hole to find one of the hooded men outside. “Hello? Is anybody in there? Please you have to let me in!” Kayleigh didn't know what to do, she just wanted to pretend she hadn't heard it, but this person seemed genuinely in need of help. She did it without thinking, she turned the key and the hooded man burst through the door and collapsed to the floor, he dog began to growl and bark. The door was slammed shut and locked again.

“Thank you so much, I thought I was going to die out there!” His voice was muffled by a gas mask and he had a helmet on to completely cover his head. He was wearing all black, he had a trench coat and a silver pin of a crow pinned to the leather. On his back he had a white crow that had been stitched on it had large lettering which read “Rebel!” Kayleigh was scared by this man, she didn't know what to do, he stood up and took off his jacket to reveal his weaponry, he had a handgun holstered on both hips, a shotgun holstered on his back and a large ammunition pouch on his front. He also carried two grenades. “You can call me Crow, and you?” She paused...”Kayleigh.”
