Unedited.ONE MONTH LATER
I slammed my locker door shut, glaring at it. The faded red mocked me, our school colours dulled long ago. I glanced down at the D- on my math test, sure to bring my average down to a B+.
I was angry with the 'teacher'. He talked math to us, I didn't learn in that class. Rarely did he ever explain anything. My friends around me always helped. Math squad was awesome, we had two of the smartest guys behind us, and they always helped along with my friend Andrew. He was strange as hell though...
I walked into English, third period, and for some reason Violet was there. Violet, the quirkiest of all my friends was red in the face. Probably because she had tripped in front of a cute boy, my class had few of them. She does that a lot. Somehow none of them have fallen for her yet.
Gabriel, one of the funniest guys I know, was ogling Jackson. I talked to him all the time, and we made faces at each other in class. Both in my room English class, along with Pati, Mary, and Emma. Mary, ironically, was emo in her own right. Always on her phone, probably looking at more Pepe memes....Oh Boy. Pati had her nose in a book, she loved books and raved about them all the time, she got as excited as a puppy seeking its owner when it had been left alone when she talked about them.
Emma held a gift for her boyfriend, Jeremiah, whom I had only ever seen once. She kept stressing though, and we all kept reassuring her that the cologne set was fine.
I sat down, trying to get him off my mind. He was way out of my league, already a junior, he was quirky and cute and quiet and shy and well... Kinda perfect. Mr. Right.
I never felt the fairytale 'spark' when I was around him, but I always felt...something. A warm and fuzzy kind of feeling. He was like me in almost every way.
I smiled at the memory of riding in Justin's car. We sang, quite out of tune for us both to be musicians, to the music playing from the radio:
'"Now if we're talking body
You got a perfect one
So put it on me
Swear it won't take you long
If you love me right
We love for life
On and on and on"The windows were down as in not to deafen ourselves and it was just...perfect.
I had admiration out the wazoo for him. I belonged, finally, in that moment with him.
The snapping of Mary's fingers finally brought me out of my thoughts, a small smile on my face. She smirked knowingly, delving into the story of her new boyfriend. I listened diligently until the bell rang, quickly sending Justin a 'Good Morning' text before the teacher told us to put our phones away.
•LUNCH•
I stared at the brown hair in front of me, wishing to already be out of the lunch line. Today's lunch was donatos, and luckily I had money on my account.
The ping of my phone sounded and I checked it.
'Good Morning Berk'
I giggled slightly, Justin never texted back, this was honestly a first. I loved the nickname only he called me.
I decided not to text back, one of my very flawed ways of flirting. A huge grinned appeared on my face as I remembered that we had Pep Band tonight. I get to see him!
I looked up, to see a non existent line in front of me. I rushed to the lady, order pizza and picking up an apple instead of a cookie. I thanked her and quickly walked to the band room before the security lady could see.
Mary never ate, so when I returned to the band room, she was already practicing again.
She stopped suddenly, turning a questioning eye to me.
"Are you going to talk to him tonight?"
She stared me down despite her being vertically challenged, humility burning through me."How do you know I'm going?" My palms started to sweat as Mary interrogated me. For five-foot-three she could be scary when she wanted to be.
"You go to pep band every time."
"Tonight could be different though."
"Justin's going, nothing has changed."
"I don't even like Justin." I poorly replied earning a laugh from her. It was impossible to keep a secret from your friends.
Pati had plugged her ears long ago feeling this conversation 'inappropriate'. And Violet was sitting with Daniel in the lunch room, her boyfriend, who wasn't really her boyfriend because her parents wouldn't let her date, and blah blah blah.
My phone buzzed: from Justin,
'Are you going to the game tonight?'I replied an ambiguous idk, and smiled. This was very weird of him. He never responded to my text messages, let alone texted me first.
My horoscope might be right tonight; romantic advances of the fire signs may be observed tonight.
