Overall I generally like the character Rey. She reminds me of Luke a lot. Is she his daughter??! Maybe even Han's??! I liked that they left her past unknown so they could follow up on this later.
There were a few things that I did not like though.
One of these was WHY COULD SHE USE THE FORCE?? Even in "A New Hope" Luke had some training with Obi Wan. It kind of confusing: Luke, direct son of Anakin, who had 20,000 MIDI-CHLORIANS (I apologies for bringing these up- a lot of people hate the addition of midi-chlorians to Star Wars) and WAS THOUGHT TO BE/MAYBE TURNED UP TO BE THE CHOSEN ONE, gets to be BAD at using the force for YEARS until "Return of the Jedi." Rey, DOESN'T EVEN MEET A JEDI UNTIL THE LAST FIVE MINUTES OF THE MOVIE("The Force Awakens")! But then she ends up using the force to pick up Anakin/Luke's lightsaber AND DEFEATS KYLO REN, a TRAINED FORCE USER, in battle. "Training in the force, this easy it is not" -possible Yoda Quote
Secondly, it seemed like the story writers tried to have Rey's attitude and her talents with technology like ships to make up for the death of Han Solo. (I will go further on this topic later) NO ONE can replace Han😢😢😢. The thought of REY taking command of the LEGENDARY MILLENNIUM FALCON makes me want to cry.
Once again, I think Rey is an OK character. Sorry I hate on these people, but that's kinda what may happen a lot in this book.
