Why must it always be dark? Nothing but darkness ever surrounds me. The cold numbs me as I drift. Before I realize it there's small blood droplets decorating my desk. I look at my wrist, realizing what I'd done. A long, skinny, blood-dripping cut is presented on my wrist. I make no movement or sound, just staring at the bloody cut. It doesn't feel too deep or too shallow. I admire the unconscious work I'd done...but soon had to stop.
"Ms. Garland! Reina did it again!" That girl with too much makeup and a bad dye job called me out again. Tattletale bitch.
"Reina!" Ms. Garland sighed, writing me yet another pass to the nurse, irritated obviously. But since "rehab" wasn't working I had to stay in school. Sorry, Ms. Garland. "Kathy, escort Reina to the nurse again please."
"Yes, Ms. Garland." Kathy was a pretty brunette girl with really wide brown eyes. She was Ms. Garlands favorite little goody-two-shoes.
As she got up from her seat, she smoothed out the wrinkles in her navy blue, uniform skirt. She approached the door, not me, taking the pass from Ms. Garland. I sighed very softly, getting up and slowly making my way toward Kathy.
As we walked down the hall, I stared in a daze outside, holding my arm out so blood wouldn't stain my boring white blouse. Not that I'd mind, but that means my parents would have to buy me a new uniform. I didn't want to trouble them.
"You're doing this for attention, aren't you? Seems a bit extreme to me." I ignored her as best as I could, not saying a word. I tried to focus only on the trees outside, moving elegantly with the wind, and the soft pattering of the rain against the windows.
Kathy tried talking to me more, but I wasn't listening. Finally we reached the medical office and I swung open the door, stepping inside with Kathy following behind
"Smells like gross medicine in here." She muttered under her breath. Ignore.
"Reina, here again?" Nurse Tiff looked up from her book, smiling at me. I nodded, sitting on the bland green cot closest to her. "Same arm?" I held out my wrist to her as she took out some gauze and alcohol wipes. She rolled her squeaky chair over to me, pushing up her glasses as she did.
I saw Kathy in the corner, tapping her foot impatiently, sighing. I didn't mind her though. My focus was on Nurse Tiff. Nurse Tiff was pretty young and beautiful in my opinion. She always had her dirty blonde hair tied up into a sorta messy bun and her lab jacket was always only buttoned three buttons up from the bottom. She wasn't chubby but had a pretty big rack and her lips always look like she was pouting.
I felt the sting on my wrist as she gently dabbed at my cut. She smiled as she saw me wince. Beautiful sadist.
"What class was it this time?" She asked, throwing out the alcohol pad.
"English Literature." I softly replied, my arm starting to get tired.
"Ah got bored I see." She giggled harmlessly as she wrapped the gauze around my wrist carefully. "I'm just kidding ya." I almost smiled for her, but I couldn't.
"Are you almost done. I have to get back to class." Kathy said. It wasn't a question, it was a demand, which slightly irked me. Rushing Nurse Tiff. Let her do her job damn it.
Nurse Tiff taped the gauze with medical tape, looking at me precociously. Just as she was about to say something else, the door slammed open. All of our attention was on the frantic girl.
"Hi! I uh tripped and skinned my knee but I really need to pee first!"
Nurse Tiff held back a laugh, pointing to the bathroom next to the cabinets of tampons and pads. "Thank you!" The girl shouted, hurrying to the bathroom, her long red hair flowing behind her.
At that moment I didn't think much of that girl then...so I never expected to become more than just strangers with her.
