It was Christmas eve night and Batman sat on a brick. Wow, okay, that may have been a stretch... Actually it was just Rookie, a small and energetic author, in a Batman snuggie, waiting for her hot chocolate to be done. The "brick" was just their stone hard couch. The girl was sitting in their apartment's living room, snuggled on the sofa by the fire. Tayuh, her roommate, was in the kitchen, boiling water for them.
"TAYUH!" Said Rookie. "I DEMAND MAH HOT CHOCOLATE WITH BUNNY MARSHMALLOWS ON THE SIDE!"
Tayuh sighed. She stirred the chocolate into the water. "It'll be done in a few minutes, chill." She decided next year, she'd get Rookie a chef for Christmas. She was always the one to make their meals.
"Mooom..... Hurry up!"
"I'M NOT YOUR MOTHER."
"Mom, stop being an asshole."
"How dare you talk to your mother like that!"
"I thought I wasn't your daughter." Rookie smirked.
Tayuh face palmed. "I'm about to spit in your hot cocoa." She muttered, ripping the bag of marshmallows open over-violently.
"You mad bro? Cause Santa is gonna put you on the Naughty List by acting like that."
Tayuh shrugged as she came back in the room, handing her friend her mug of cocoa. One mug had a cat face on it and the other had a mustache, it read 'I mustache you a question'. "I never believed in Santa anyways, so ha."
Rookie gasped. "You don't believe in Santa?!" She jumped out of her seat and spilled the mug on the carpet. "Whoops, sorry about that."
Tayuh pinched the bridge of her nose. "I just cleaned that carpet. And no, I don't believe in Santa. Never did."
"Religious purpose?" Rookie questioned. "Jewish? You celebrate Hanukkah?"
"No, no." Tayuh sipped her drink. "I just don't believe some fat man breaks into every kid's house every year to leave gifts. It's not possible for a man so big to slip down a chimney and what not."
"That's not what Christmas is about dude. It's about sitting near the fire with your best friend and drink hot cocoa. It's about singing Christmas carols and hear those sleigh bells ring a ling. It's about eating gingerbread cookies that your grandmother makes. Most important, it's about watching Christmas shows on Netflixs! And of course the one and only Saint Nick!" Rookie explained.
"I know, I know." Tayuh nodded. "And that's fun and all, but growing up my parents never told us the whole Santa lie. We still made gingerbread houses. Should we make some tomorrow, by the way?"
"Sure, since today's Christmas Eve and what not. I mean it's not like Santa Claus will never come to town this year!"
Suddenly the newscast came on. "BREAKING NEWS! IT APPEARS THAT CHRISTMAS WON'T COME AROUND THIS YEAR!"
The two stared quizzically at the television. "Did... you hear that?" Tayuh asked. She was a little pale in the face. Which was more scary to her; the fact that the TV turned on by itself or that Christmas is cancelled? And for what reason? "Why would they say that?"
"IF YOU'RE ASKING 'Why would we say that?' IS BECAUSE A HURRICANE IS HEADING THIS WAY! WHICH MEANS SANTA WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO COME TO TOWN! HIDE YOUR WIFE! HIDE YOUR KIDS! AND PANIC!!!!!"
The television automatically turned off and the power went off. "Where's your flashlight?!" Rookie asked concerned.
"U-under the sink! I have some candles too, let's light them." Tayuh answered. She began freaking out a little. The TV having a mind of it's own was scary enough. Now there's a hurricane coming. She never had to experience a storm that big or scary, since she grew up in California.
