Marcus woke me up early the next day. I groaned but got up. I knew what today was and I knew I couldn't be late. But I didn't want to go. There was so many people I wanted to meet and things I wanted to do on the Island and I couldn't do them. But I didn't voice my opinions. I stayed quiet and got ready. I got dressed in a black t-shirt, jeans, and combat boots. After putting my hair up in a ponytail, I walked downstairs with my bag in my right hand. My left hand was on my necklace, twirling the stone between my fingers.
"I don't want to leave either, princess," Marcus said. He must have seen my sad expression. "But we have to. You know we have no choice."
I nodded. "Yeah, I know. That's what I don't like. I don't like how useless we are."
I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked up to face Marcus. I didn't hear him walking towards me before. He slightly smiled. "Well wherever we're going, I bet that we can do something about that, princess," he assured me.
I sighed. "I hope so."
We made eggs and toast for breakfast. After eating, we grabbed our bags and walked to the door. When we opened it, we saw two people standing there. One had a suit on and looked like he was about to knock. He wore black sunglasses to cover his eyes and short, brown hair. The person next to him was a woman wearing a red dress. She had blonde hair in a bun on top of her head and bright green eyes. Based on the way they dressed, I could tell that they were the humans here to collect us. That and the three black cars parked behind them.
"Are you Marcus and Alex?" The man asked.
Marcus nodded. "Yes, we are."
The woman eyes my necklace. "Pretty necklace you have there."
"Thanks," I acknowledged.
She looked at the necklace once more before looking up at Marcus. "My name is Jenny. I will be your escort today. Follow me."
Marcus and I followed Jenny to the cars. We got in the middle of the car, our bags being thrown into the back, and I watched as we drove away from the cabin. From my childhood. From my life. From everything I hold close to me. To go to who knows where and to do who knows what. I was determined on one thing and one thing only, keeping my necklace out of the human's grasp. I owed my mother that.
We drove to town and straight through it. I watched as we drove until the buildings stopped and we were on the beech. We drove onto a wooden platform that went over the ocean before parking next to a giant metal object Marcus called a cargo ship. We got out of the car and I grabbed my bag from the trunk. I stayed next to Marcus as we walked up a wooden bridge to the top of the ship called the deck. The deck was empty except for a few crates and two cranes, one at each end. Marcus and I were led to one of these big, rectangular, multicolored, metal crates and shoved inside. I turned to escape but the door was shut, leaving us in a room illuminated by a flickering light.
I turned around to see that the light source were two lanterns hung a couple feet away from the foot of two twin beds. I set my bag at the end and sat on the bed. It was surprisingly comfortable to sit on. The bed was covered by a light grey blanket and had a white pillow at the front near the headboard. I looked over at Marcus and saw that he was already getting into the bed.
"We don't know what's going to happen to us wherever we're going so get some sleep now, princess. It might be the most sleep you will get in awhile," Marcus explained.
I nodded. "Okay," I agreed. I then took my boots off and got into bed. Pulling up the covers, I fell asleep after a couple minutes.
I woke up to the sound of a metal door opening. I sat up and saw a figure put two trays on the ground inside the crate before the door closed. I swung my legs over the side of the bed and put my boots back on. I looked over at Marcus's bed and saw that he was still sleeping. I smiled at him before getting up to investigate the trays.
