"So Amy is not going to be eating lunch with us any more." Even though I knew better, I still asked.
"Why?"
Lasie let out a horrified gasp as though someone just insulted her dead grandmother. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at my best friend.
"Are you serious? You haven't heard?" We had been out of school for two months, I was still curious on how the hell she knew about anything.
I guess she took my silence as my answer. "Well, she is dating Luke Macy, and of course, you know him?"
Crap.
She paused, I was supposed to answer.
Of course I didn't know who the hell that was but he obviously offended her somehow.
After a few moments she just continued, to my relief, I relaxed back into my seat. "And I do not want him around us. I mean, like, what does she take us for-"
Soon, but not soon enough, I was able to block out Lasie's ranting. I stared out at the scenery flying passed us on the main road to school, the simple diners and family owned corner stores were only a blur but I knew them all by heart. I had lived here all my life, in a large plantation home inherited by my father, as well the local oil rigs.
Needless to say ,though I hated to, we were rich.
It wasn't something I brought up often, my parents were humble people who raised us right. We worked for the things we got and I'm proud of where I stand at Card Richers High School. Top of my class since freshman year and already had top collages nipping at my heels.
Even though i was still a junior I had no idea what I wanted in life and being at the constant nagging of my parents about it too. Both me and my younger brother ,Carter, were constantly pushed to do our best.
Which I was okay with.
"SHANNA!" I jerked at the sound of Lasie's annoyed shout. "I asked what you thought about it."
Yea, I had no idea what she meant by "it" but I guess I'd better play along before she caught on.
"Oh...yes definitely!" I tried to sound enthusiastic and not bored or confused, which is what I felt about the current situation, I flinched at her sigh.
"Thank you, at least someone understands."
I calmed at her agreement, one day I'm not going to be so lucky.
"So, How's Liam?" She asked with her suspicious grin. I rolled my eyes at her nosiness. Liam was boyfriend of about 8 months, he made me happy and my parents approved which was a big plus.
"He's good. Waiting for me now, as a matter of fact." I had texted him earlier when I had gotten in the car with Lasie.
"Things are getting serious hmm?" She wiggled her eyebrows at me.
"Eyes on the road, Stall" I warned. We would be pulling up at the school in about two minutes. "Anyway, we are nothing more than any other couple at our age." It was true, we were still in the akward stage dispite dating so long.
"Yea, but your The couple at the school." She had to point that out. After being in the year book last year under "cutest couple" we had been what everyone had labeled as the "perfect couple". I hated that though. It's like we were put on a billboard for the whole town to view, this place practically feeds off drama. With too many soccer mom's to spread it at the deli.
She put the car in park towards the front of the lot recklessly. She had only gotten her license over the summer and just barely passed the test but, I'd rather spend the possibility of death with Lasie than the akward 15 minute ride to school with Liam.
Speaking of him I could see the floppy blonde hair making its way to us from the other side of the fence. Lasie pulled her mirror down to adjust her lip gloss before unlocking the doors.

The first day of school was always the day to show off what you had, or what you didn't in that matter. Lasie, of course, was dress to impress all the boys that she wouldn't even give a chance. But I had to give it to her. She was a tall, slim, pretty blonde with hazle eyes and delicate features. She was beautiful, and she knew it.
I, on the other hand had, long dirty blonde hair that fell in ringlets that hadn't been cut since 7th grade. A short frail stature with boring brown eyes, Though my mother loved them, said they reminded her of a doe.
But I managed to catch the attention of Liam.
"Hey, Babe." He bounded up to my side and placed a kiss on my cheek. I learned to resist the urge to push him away. It always felt awkward to me but I figured out how to accept the affection. I noticed his slightly damp hair and horrific oder which gave me a reason to flinch away.
"Um?" I didn't have to say much more.
"Oh...yea, sorry. We had soccer practice this morning." He said giving me his dimpled grin that I found charming.
I giggled and shook my head, "Well until you shower, no hugging, or anything else."
He rolled his eyes and put his head down in silently agreement, allowing me to walk ahead of him.
We made our way to the court yard where we'd sit in a center table that will be filled with girls that I'd chatted with before and the rest of the soccer team. I guess they were my "people". As Lasie would call them.
Liam started to chat with the guy that came out of nowhere, Lasie with her new tag along while we made our way across the vast grassy field before the school day official started.
I hadn't even talked to most of the people that sat near us, I'd never been given a reason. I mostly kept to myself and only expanded for the exception of Liam or Lasie.
I suddenly felt my shoulder jerked back causing me to stop abruptly.
I gasped and looked back to see Liam with a pissed off look on his face his eyes focusing forward. I followed his gaze.
Our table.
But sitting around it was them. The ones that no one talked about, the ones that everyone had a story about. The outcasts.
The first to look up was a girl with puffy pink hair and a nose ring. She looked timid and shy but overall really pretty. She tapped on the shoulder of the blue haired guy next to her, the one smoking. He looked up and gave us a casual smirk.
I felt Liam tense beside me, I grabbed his arm as he began to walk toward them. I knew how this ended. And I'd rather not see it happen on the first day of school. Or ever again. Liam and his animals had run ins with these people before only to end In detentions and bloody faces on both sides.
"We can find somewhere else to sit. It doesn't matter, they were there first." I whisper to him.
He jerked out of my grasp. "If they don't know now, they never will."
One of then stood up. He had his jacket hung over his shoulder and he was wearing a shirt of some band I didn't know, headphones casually hung around his neck. His dark hair actually stood out among his friends.
His eyes glanced over each of us, stopping on me then Liam last. His vibrant blue eyes struck me.
"I'd listen to her, not wise to pick a fight today. We'll leave peacefully soon enough." His voice was so assured and calm, as of he had already played this out. "Or do you want to take it from us now." He challenged, dropping his jacket on the table. The blue guy put out his cigarette on the bench and stood up along with others. Leaving about four guys with vibrant hair challenging Liam. The girls stood sitting, giving us devil stares that were just as intimidating.
Liam looked at me, he was smart enough to know he was out matched, and back at the table before huffing and walking off without us. His arms clenched and hands balled up as he stormed off.
The group we acquired in our March ran past me to catch up with him and I was close to following blindly. But I turned to see, I didn't know what I was looking for, but it wasn't what I found.
The look of ice blue that chilled me. The other sat down while he kept standing. I had no idea why I kept staring but it was a mistake.
"What do you want? Your boyfriend went that way." He gestured. Giving me the "shoo" hand. The others looked at me, causing me to panic and turn back.
That was my first encounter with Benedict Fallows.
