When I came home from school it was a normal afternoon. Except Daddy had news for Mom, Mikey, and I.
"So, I just got a talk with my boss at work," Daddy started to say. "He wants to meet the family and if he likes you guys I will get a promotion and start going to gatherings with his friends!"
"Oh, honey I'm so proud!" Congratulated Mom.
"Wow," Mikey simply said.
But I had something else to say.
"When will your boss be coming?" I asked.
"Saturday," answered Dad.
"Oh I can't go. Too bad," I said.
"Why?" Mom asked.
"I'm going to the movies with my friends then."
"Veronica, you know how important this is to me," said Dad clearly disappointed. "Are you sure you can't just move your plans?"
"No but I'm sure your boss can tell I'm a good daughter by looking at you guys."
"But.... I w-wanted you to come," Dad stuttered.
"Sorry but I don't have a choice. I'm not going," I said.
Everybody was stunned but I had plans and I wasn't going to let somebody else's plans get in the way.
I walked upstairs to my room.
Everyone wants so much from me and I don't know why. To relieve stress I would always call my best friend, Jordyn, to calm me.
"Hello?" She answered.
"Hey there, JJ," I said.
"Hey Vicki, are you ready for the movie night Saturday?"
"Yeah, but my dad wants me to meet his boss."
"Your not really gonna go?" She snorted.
"Heck no! Do you really think I would dump this for a stupid boss meeting?"
"I hope not. That would really bring down your reputation in our cliché. And you wouldn't do that, right?"
"Um, no. I would even think of doing that," I said but I wasn't really sincere about that. I don't know but something didn't feel right. But I ignored that feeling like always.
"Good," she said. "It would be a shame if I couldn't be your friend anymore. So we're leaving at seven on Saturday 'cause the movie starts at seven forty-five."
"Okay. I'll call Trey and the others about the time."
"Kk bye!"
"Bye."
I called everyone else but when I called Trey something sounded strange.
"Hello?" He answered. He sounded out of breath.
"Uh, hey. Is everything ok?" I asked.
"Yeah, what's up?"
"I just wanted to let you know that I'm picking you up at seven on Saturday. Is that okay?"
"It's fine. Tha-"
"Trey, who is that?" A woman on the phone asked.
"Shut up!" Trey yelled at her.
I asked the same question. "Who is that?"
"My mom!" He answered quickly.
"Come back to bed, baby." The woman on the phone said again.
"I'm pretty sure your mom wouldn't say that. Are you cheating on me?" I asked.
"Look we'll talk about it later. I gotta go!" Trey answered.
"No we need to talk now!" I screamed into the phone. But he already hung up. I was furious. I threw my pillow at the wall.
Knock! Knock!
"Is everything okay in there?" Mom asked through the door.
"I'm fine, mom. I'm perfectly fine."
But that wasn't true. Not at all.
