CHAPTER ELEVEN : The Mad Man in a Box

The Plan was that Clark would roam around in the streets at night lost and let himself be lured. There was a way to capture the extra shadow as per Harry's explanation. He had made a torch which should apparently capture it, though it was never tested. Theoretically, it was possible.

We waited till 3:45 am. Nothing happened. I went to the balcony and started practicing some of my contemporary moves in order to stay awake, but my entire body was aching. Around 4 am. I decided to go to bed. Just as I was going to my bed, I heard a voice which sounded like it was a kid's voice. It said, "Can you help me please?"

I just looked outside trying to know where the voice came from.

"Can you please help me?" I heard again.

I climbed out of the house and followed the voice. The kid kept on saying it again and again and it felt like the voice was going further. I followed the voice. I reached near a street light close to Vera Moda Shop. A sense of realization hit me. I looked at my reflection. I had TWO SHADOWS! And I had brought nothing with me! I screamed! I couldn't help it. It wasn't so loud but I did felt some what of a relief.

I quickly checked my hair. I had a bobby pin! I was so happy. At least some hope to open that Vera Moda door! I was truly happy that Lex taught me how to do that trick in less than 5 seconds. What I didn't plan was the alarms. The alarms kept going on an on and to my luck, one of the shadows disappeared and I was left with only a single shadow.

But I could hear police sirens coming. I was so getting in trouble for this as I was fully aware that no one would believe me if I told the truth. On the bright side, Harry's theory proved to be right.

Than suddenly, a man landed in front of me. He dragged my hand and whispered "Run" in my ear. We ran for a while and suddenly, I saw an English telephone box. I looked closer at the man's face. It was the janitor! "You're the janitor, Mr. Smith. Why are you helping me?"

The sirens came closer and he said, "I'll explain it to you just in a while, but can you just get in here fast. We've gotta hurry."

"I'm not getting in that box with you! Was this all some kind of a joke! So that you could you know do stuff to me!"

"Trust me please just step in, you'll understand."

I didn't want to but as I could see a few police cars, I rushed in and the doctor followed. It was bigger on the inside!
"It's huge! It .. It...."

"Felicity. Felicity. Wake up."

"Did I just faint?" I muttered.

He nodded.

"For how long?" I asked.

"Just a few seconds. I know it's a lot to take in."

"Is this the town of weird or something or am I losing my mind." I spoke in an undertone.

"Why don't you calm down. Let me introduce myself again. I am The Doctor. I am from the planet Galifrey and I'm the last one of my species.I-"

"Do you think of me to be a fool!? You're playing with my head in some manner and I know it!" I snapped.

"No of course not and since we're running short of time, I'm truly sorry for what I'm about what I'm gonna do because there is no other way for me to prove it to you."

"What exactly are-" He hit his head to mine with extreme force which hurt like hell and I was about to yell. Bust slowly, I started seeing the flashbacks of his life about all his companions, his daughter, his grand-daughter Suzan, The Master, Daleks, River Song, aliens and everything. I looked at him in amazement.

"Now, this was just wow! You're a time lord and this is a T.A.R.D.I.S."

"It would appear so. Now, that was just my basic summary. Now, listen carefully they are the piranhas of the air. They are microscopic, swarming carnivores. They are known as VASHTA NERADA. The name means 'the shadows that melt the flesh'. The ones who lured you and many others were just infants. Just pre-mature ones. They are a few in number yet, but it will increase. So, it is necessary to stop them before they become smarter. I've finally found a cure for this. But it will have to be planned. I managed to capture the one which tried to to kill you and sent it in the void like a few others a-"

"Hold on, you captured it. When? I didn't see you."

"Well, I didn't plan it to happen that way. And I also didn't think that you would do something so stupid."

"Excuse me! Harry told me that a man in box always rescues the victims and takes him to a nearby shop and turning on the lights makes the shadow disappear."

"No, it's the perception filter, it can make a person see various things, depends on his imagination. I never take the victim to the shop, but rather, I take him here, make him calm down and drop off at their houses and leave."

"And this has been going on from last year, isn't it?" I asked.

"Yes, and only in Smallville they are in a large number. They weren't supposed to be here yet. They could wipe off the entire planet if we let 'em rise. This is a small number and they have to be stopped. Oh no.."Doctor said looking at his watch. It's morning."

"So?"

"They must've gone by now."

"We'll just have to wait till the next new moon." I said.

"Nah, we can manage that tomorrow."

"But, how?"

"They will come as they are hungry. Only on new moon, they publicly hunt. Otherwise they silently hunt every once in a while. But don't be scared, we'll make sure that they can't attack anyone." he excitedly spoke.

"Yes!" I grinned. "Well, I should go home. Or I'll probably make Lex mad."

I stepped out of the box and I saw the police cars were still there. I heard someone say, "I see a bobby pin. It has some fingerprints. This must be our alphabetical thief." Some other officer said, "Ooh, there's a broken nail lying here. I checked my nail. My right hand thumb nail was covered with a band-aid which I hadn't put. Then, I saw an officer coming towards me.
