Prologue
Being on a game show wasn’t the same as watching one. Not in the slightest.
The discomfort of the person on television would probably never run through the viewer’s mind—not when they were comfortably curled up on their bed or couch with a snack in their lap. They wouldn’t know of the hunger, the aching of the contestants’ muscles, or even how cold it had gotten since the starting timer had reached zero.
They wouldn’t know of the fatigue—or even how frightened the players had grown. Because, the disclaimer was still flashing behind their eyelids each time they blinked. Riddle had gone bad. She was bored. And now, she was playing the game her way.
Death will occur.
The only way to survive was to win.
