CHAPTER 1

I found myself crouched at the corner of my bedroom, breathing heavily. Someone had broken into the house. I could hear the intruder’s footsteps. I glanced at the clock to see that it was two in the morning. I knew my parents wouldn’t come home this late. The footsteps got louder and I knew he was near my room. Suddenly, the doorknob turned. The door slowly opened and I tried to see who it was. The room was dark so I could only make out a shadow. The figure approached me; I realized it was male. I opened my mouth to scream but he clamped it shut with his hand. He leaned closer to my ear and whispered, “Hello Kitty Cat.”

I woke up to a high-pitched sound only to realize that I had been screaming. Beads of sweat trickled down my face. I hadn’t dreamt about him in a long time. I thought the bad dreams had gone away. I used to have them for about 3 months after the breakup, then they suddenly disappeared.

I started to remember everything that had happened between us. He was the only one who made me feel this way, terrified. I pushed the thoughts away and dragged myself out of bed. I proceeded to shuffle my way into the bathroom. Looking at the mirror, I was horrified at what I saw. My hair was a mess, my eyes had dark circles underneath them and my skin was deathly pale. I stripped off all my clothes then went to take a shower. The warm water calmed me down and I felt revitalized afterwards. I wrapped a towel around myself then went to my closet. After deliberating on what to wear, I settled on a floral tank top and black skinny jeans, finishing it off with a blue cardigan. I slipped on my velvet colored flats and ran down the stairs to the kitchen expecting to find my parents, only to find a boy leaning against the counter.

Ian Davenport was my next-door neighbor and one of my friends. The girls practically swoon and throw themselves at him. I wouldn’t blame them, seeing as Ian is six feet tall with jet-black hair and cobalt blue eyes. He looked good in a tight white t-shirt and beige cargos that accentuated his skin. Unfortunately, he knew it. He smirked at me when he caught me checking him out. He stood and walked towards me. I couldn’t help but stare at the 6-pack that was slightly visible under his shirt.

“Done checking me out?” he asked.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said, turning away from him.

He seated himself and pointed towards the seat across him. “Sit down and eat. We might be late for school,” he said.

I shrugged and followed his instructions then started to pour myself some cereal.

Suddenly, he asked, “Hey Kari, had a good dream last night?”

“Huh? What?”

“I woke up to your screaming. If I didn’t know better, I would say you had a nightmare. But knowing you, you were probably dreaming about me.” He winked. “You know if you wanted me to make you scream in real life, I’d gladly do it,”He said smirking at me.

God. He is such a pervert. I can’t believe I was ogling him just a while ago.

I rolled my eyes as I finished my cereal. I started walking out the door when he grabbed me by the waist and offered me a ride to school. Before I could answer, he had already scooped me up and carried me to his car. His brother Nash was already inside, starting up the engine. It was hard to believe how two people who looked so much alike could be so different. Nash had the same jet-black hair and blue eyes as his brother, but he wasn’t a jerk or quite as arrogant as Ian.

His eyes were so blue, I could stare at them forever…

I snapped out of it quickly and climbed in front so that Ian would be stuck in the back. He groaned and I found myself smiling evilly.
